Yikes. Tsk tsk. I wouldn't expect to see one of my favorite authors in the spotlight for something like this.

The article is vague as to the actual result of this ruling. Is the fine the only amount that Mamare has to pay, or is the fine in addition to the 250k that he already owed? Because if he only has to pay the fee then why the hell wouldn't all big earners commit tax evasion if the punishment for being found guilty is 25% of what is actually owed.

That said, Mamare should look into setting up an offshore company in say, Panama, that will handle international holdings for his properties. That's the way to actually get away with tax evasion.

I hope I'm not being paranoid, but does this news spell bad for a possible sequel on Log Horizon? Please, Touno-sensei, be good and be relevant on your taxes from now on. Fire your incompetent accountants and do it yourself so they won't have the chance to purse some change.

I suppose the silver-lining to this is that he's not inconvenienced with mandatory prison time, so nothing should prevent him from writing more Log Horizon or whatever he wants. Whether this debacle makes it harder for him to get things published tho, well... i can hope it won't hamper him at least.

Taking my fan hat off for a minute; geez man tax evasion hurts.

well that explains the anime version's ending for season two. not to mentioned any new news on the manga and light novel versions of the series. cant continue with its anime version if the author is in jail and unable to release anymore of the original source materials whether its the light novels or the manga.

Oh, I was confused on who owed who. I assumed the author had to pay the quarter of a million. Is the first mentioned of a levied fine the one he owes or is it added to the quarter of a mill? If so, the 7mil aka 63k seems steep but reasonable for him to get out of if he can account for his earnings and spending. Plus he has the prison sentence pushed back for 3 years. I hope this guy is able to get out of it and of course, make more log horizon. And I hope this issue if he goes back to doing it won't hamper his creativity in writing.

The WebNovel is still rolling so don't think we need to worry about whether or not new material being produced anymore. Hell he had a ton of time to write being stuck in the house!

I'd just like to point out that Japanese Courts have silly conviction rates.

I'm pretty sure he pays the back taxes and the fine.

Well we dunno if he had a defense attorney since its a tax case instead of the usual, but those people in a court case basically have an unfair disadvantage in japans court system. Though I assume he didn't have one which for this type of case seems reasonable.

Well even so. I bet this is gonna hamper this guys chance at getting any future anime adaptation of his work. Making NHK prolly cut ties with him. Which is sad

Obviously he wasn't rich enough. If he was a multibillion dollar corporation hiding billions from the tax authorities, he'll be scot free.

Near as I can tell, the final arc of Log Horizon 2 is pretty dang accurate to the events of volume 10, and Touno had always worked closely with the animation team, so...

That being said, the newest chapter of the web edition of the light novels was just published on the 20th, and finishes off volume 11. I'm assuming it'll go through edits now, although there was only a 3-month turnaround on volume 10. The same month volume 10 came out, the first volume of a gaiden series was also released.

As for the manga, well... the "main" manga, I'm pretty certain is never getting continued. West Wind Brigade has either just recently ended or is still going, as volume 7 was just published this month. I know Honey Moon Logs has finished, but I'm not sure on Nyanta's Recipe. Latest volume of that is almost a year old now.
