Fairy Tail Zero was great.

Unfortunately the Alvarez Arc is the worst of them all, and I thought Avatar Arc was bad.

6 of 12 spriggans have already been beaten like they were nothing, so far only a minor victory against Sabertooth & Blue Pegasus is all they have to offer.

- Ajeel: spoiler[Needed to get blasted by a Jupiter cannon before he could be taken down].
- God Serena: spoiler[Fodderized by Acnologia, yes, but not before taking out four of the strongest wizards the heroes had at their disposal].
- Wall: spoiler[Had the common sense to adapt to his opponents].
- DiMaria: spoiler[Required the only wizard capable of defeating her to lose her power in the end].
- Jacob: spoiler[Forced Natsu and Lucy to use quick and clever thinking to stand a chance, and posed a genuine threat to Mavis].
- Neinhart: spoiler[Created a miniature army of wizards just as powerful as their opponents while they were at a momentary disadvantage].

And keep in mind, each of them rebounded from moments of weakness that would deem them completely pathetic opponents. We've yet to see how Brandish's situation plays out, though.

After the "Natsu-smash" travesties that were the Avatar arc's battles (and even to his credit then, he was born to become one of the most terrifying forces of destruction known to man), a story arc with opponents who actually provided a challenge was all one could have asked for. And I've been pleasantly surprised by the amount of love some of the other non-FT fighters have been getting in this arc.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree, the Alvarez arc has been some of the series best work. The fights have been fun, interesting but don't overstay their welcome. I've felt each posed a challenge and that their purpose had been achieved once they lost.

We must be reading a different manga, because to me the Alvarez Arc has been nothing but boring. Needless fanservice aside (because honestly what would FT be without its chapter ass shot quota?), there has been really nothing that makes me care at all about what will happen next.

spoiler[God Serena's build up was completely wasted the moment he was one-shotted by Acnologia]

Mavis' plans have been beyond terrible for a supposed "Tactician". spoiler[Really? You're going to place the dragon slayers on their one weakness? A moving vehicle? That's like handing Superman a rock of kryptonite and telling him to fight somebody]

spoiler[Aquarius coming back completely ruined all the impact her sacrifice had in the Tartaros arc. ESPECIALLY when it was revealed her key was out there.]

Dimaria and Brandish WERE interesting spoiler[Until Dimaria used her magic to essentially strip people and Brandish just did a random face turn out of basically nowhere not to mention the fact that Fairy tail is letting her run free despite Lucy trying to KILL her and vice versa. No matter what she did, she is still an enemy combatant, they didn't seal her magic after letting her go as far as I can tell]

spoiler[Natsu's tumor lasted all of 4 chapters until he just came back and whooped Jacob like he was nothing, who also turned out to be disappointing with his "stripping people" technique ]

And as much as I love Erzaspoiler[her defeating the three apparitions Neinhart summoned by just glaring at them disapprovingly was the biggest piece of BS I've seen since Sting just gave up at the GMG]

This isnt the worst arc of the series spoiler[That honor still belongs to the GMG/Eclipse arc with Avatar being a very close second] but there has been literally nothing that feels the least bit tense. It's just one random plot twist or deus ex machna victory after another. It's so hard to take this war seriously when nothing feels like it matters.

I'd love to hear a worst to best or even top 5 Fairy Tail arcs list. It might help me get back into it, knowing if it ever reaches the heights of the Tenroujima arc.

Personally my top 5 list goes

Tower of Heaven
Oracion Seis
Tartaros
Tenrou
Phantom Lord

My worst list starts and basically ends with the Grand Magic Games/Eclipse Arc. Though Avatar isn't far behind.

To be fair Avatar is supposed to be bland, it's a generic "we had a time skip, time to one shot a few jobbers."

One piece had Fishman Island to fill this same hole. Normally for a Post-Time-Skip arc you body the boring Antagonists and then have some major world building moment. And if you compare OP and FT both had that for their first Post-Skip arcs.
