I agree with Rebecca's opinion completely. I've been following this series for a few years, and at some point you don't even remember how horrible it started. I went back and reread the first couple of volumes and was kind of surprised that I didn't drop it on the spot back when I first checked it out (probably my tolerance for rape content in BL was much higher back then). But really, the shift is so dramatic and the relationship between Nemu and Maya becomes so, I'm gonna go out and say, healthy, one can't possibly fathom that it started in such a disgusting way. The guys communicate, the sex is always consensual (which can't be said for other series like Junjou Romantica or Sekaiichi Hatsukoi), and they both respect each other's wishes and support each other to achieve their goals. It really is like there are two completely different stories. I wonder if Nekota thought she had to make a rape first chapter to draw in the audience before going for the more typical romance story she wanted to write.

I totally agree with Rebecca and CrowLia.
The beginning was such a turnoff it took me a few readings to get past it. But once I got past that and got to later chapters where the relationship was better then I really enjoyed the story. I enjoyed it so much that I went and ordered the all Japanese volumes (even if I can't read them, at least I can puzzle out the drawings).

Nekota's work easily reach top10 BL mangakas in popularity among BLfans, and Don't Be Cruel is probably her most known manga.
It started with unconsensual cliché, but after this, travel to the seas of down-to-earth quasi-fluffy sea.
Maya is obviously the inspiration for Attack on Titan's Jean and Free! Eternal Summer's Sousuke

Hmmmm. I'd read a review of this on another site and it gave the impression of just being another creepy rapey BL, but I might give it a go now that it actually develops.

Reading is just not enough, I even got the drama CD. This is how much I love this story. If you can get pass the cliche opening rape, the rest is a sweet ride of cuteness. I absolutely love it. I wish some of the doujinshi by Nekota on this story will be translated or included as extra too. It's just too cute.

I agree with everyone else on this.I wish it hadn't started with rape. Generally rape in BL doesn't bother me (maybe this makes me a horrible person, but whatever), but I love what their relationship becomes. It'd be much easier to recommend to people if it started differently.
Really, though, I love their relationship. I think this will be the first BL to find a home on my shelves.
