Now I just hate Anime Expo, TBH. Waaay too much good stuff at once. There's no way people can get to it all. It's great for the guests I'm sure, but awful for the fans. There's a lot of guests that don't have a special thing going on that could've been omitted. I understand P.A. Works and Shinkai since they have an anniversary and Shinkai has a movie, but so many others should've just been planned for a later year.

The plot reminds me of a webcomic I read years ago called Dreamless (link goes to its TV Tropes page), about a boy and a girl who switch places while they sleep--except the girl is in America, the boy is in Japan, and it's set right before WWII. I wonder if its possible if the webcomic somehow inspired the movie. The webcomic has a more interesting premise, though.

^ I kinda doubt it. Shinkai to me seems like an extremely busy person so I have doubts that he'd read some webcomic that barely anyone has even heard of.

Man, WTF Anime Expo. This is insane. At this point, even if I was going, I don't know if it would be a good experience, because there is literally no way I could possibly do everything I want to. Honestly, this would probably be one of the things I miss. I'll be able to see this in the future at some point, I probably won't have nearly as many options to meet Japanese creators.

Not everyone is going to want to see every single guest. This makes sure everyone has something to do, even if it means some attendees will miss out. That just means you need to plan accordingly and see which guest really means more to you in seeing. |

@relyat08 Right? And when I mentioned that concern to AX, they shot back with a childish response that basically solidified my believe that they give a rat's @$$ about attendees. They just want the prestige of being able to say that they had guests A to Z all in one place at the same time. It's their image they care about, not attendees. I've seen a lot of people comment on Twitter and FB thanking AX for making their first AX so awesome. Um, yeah... We'll see how they feel in a month's time. Especially for first timers, I think it's going to be really hard to properly plan everything unless they're going with people who've survived the con before. Even if they've narrowed down their list of who to focus on, if their timing is off, they could end up not seeing any of them. I don't think AX was deserving of the funding they received from Cool Japan. With them charging even for tickets to the masquerade, it's hard to believe they needed more money.
I think this could be accomplished with just half their list, maybe even just a third. There's no doubt that AX is getting really good guests, but they didn't really need to bring them all out at the same time. And like I said above, even if someone does try to plan accordingly, one misstep and it's game over. AX is forcing people to put their eggs all in one basket. |

so... you want a convention that only happens once a year... to spread out guests? What? So you want them to come years later when the work they want to promote is irrelevant or out of the mainstream eye? |

Tell me what works Kakihara and Suwabe are promoting that must be done now. You can't convince me that Anisong Matsuri couldn't have been scheduled for another year. I sincerely hope that people will be able to see everything they want to and I do think that AX's list is very impressive. However the reality is that a lot of people are probably going to be missing out on what may be the only chance in their lifetime to meet some of these people. What's most upsetting though is that AX is doing this on purpose. They don't care if people miss out on events. They don't care if some of these guests are only participating in one day out of the four, therefore leaving people with less chance to meet them. They just care about having a long guest list to boost their image, getting their attendee numbers up, and that they are getting badge money from everyone even if not everyone ends up seeing even half the things they want to. Do they even have enough qualified staff to properly attend to all these guests? Emphasis on the word "qualified." If they don't then not only attendees, but staff are going to be burnt-out by mid-con, and this can easily have an effect on guests too. |

I was debating going to Anime Expo this year but with everything going on and their not being a guest to me personally worth sacrificing everything just to see I'm still hesitant to even bother going.
It's just so much going on and I'll bet with the crowds of people plus the events and guests I do want to see the lines will be hours long with no guarantee I'll get in which would ruin the whole con. For me on the guest list I would love to see Okayado. Monster Musume did really well on the charts over here and would love to get a autograph. And now Kazue Kato was just announced. Not including seeing EIR AOI and T.M. REVOLUTION in concert. Unless a bunch of my friends want to go with me I don't think I have it in me to even attempt the madness they are selling. |

Yeah, I do agree with crosswithyou in the sense that too much of a good thing can be a bad thing...in this case, a rather large guest list that I don't know if they have the manpower to handle.
That said, this is probably the best guest list I've seen from AX in a few years...and I know there are going to be a lot of unhappy people who missed out on seeing one or more of the guests they wanted to see because of lines, conflicts, etc. It happens every year even with a smaller guest list. While I'm a fan of a lot of the guests they have coming, I also know that there is NO way I'm seeing all of their panels and events...so I'm just going to have to really sit down and pick which ones I have to see and plan my schedule accordingly |

I would leave it... for another year. There's no doubt that everyone is relevant, but whether or not they absolutely had to be invited this year is grounds for debate. AX is trying to do too much at once. To expand on the staffing concerns, AX also needs enough staff for line control. Everything needs to work perfectly, especially this year when they have so many guests (and therefore an increase in attendance) or else it is going to blow up, and well, we all know AX's track record for being organized. If any department is understaffed, it is going to lead to stressed out staff, and stressed out staff may lash out at already tired, frustrated attendees. Everyone's going to be irate and the story is not likely to end well. |

The only thing currently I am interested in is the anisong Matsuri since I could careless about the Japanese guests this year especially after how meeting Suzuki sensei went last year with her basically being uninterested in meeting English fans
