This is absolutely pathetic. There's no reason why they shouldn't know better. Like even kids know that 911 is only for emergencies. I hope people don't blame Nintendo for people's behaviour-- this falls on the individual.

Surely now that police departments and fire stations have contacted Niantic to have their locations barred from Pokemon GO? That would help cut down the chance of having unwanted encounters of Trainers near their vicinity.

It is Niantic's fault for even making those buildings stops or gyms. Service stations such as these should never have been included in the game's mapping in the first place.

It's most likely not the station, it's more likely artwork outside them. For example, a nearby police station here has a statue outside it, the statue is the stop.

What I've heard from somebody else is that they're testing Pokemon GO in other countries before bringing it to Japan, so that they can see what all the issues are with the game before perfecting it in Japan. Seems that they are really getting their money's worth in these investments. These stories never cease to amaze me.

for the love of god how can some people be this stupid? like seriously calling 911 to find out how to catch pokemon or something stupid? They should be fined for obstruction of... something or like given mandatory community service hours for doing that.

I commend this fire department, if it were me I'd ticket the idiots who do this, but i suppose it wouldn't immediately solve the problem. As for the people trying to get access into the firedepartment, I've never been to one before but if theres a public area then I don't think it should be a big deal if they catch pokemon there but if they start causing traffic or start asking to get into restricted areas obviously the answer should be no.
This is so depressing, honestly I feel like pokemon can be played almost anywhere as long as you conduct yourself accordingly. I suppose this would be relevant

I'd wage that most police and fire stations are labeled as such on Google Maps, and since the game uses Google Maps as its framework, you'd think that the developers would be able to limit spawning Pokemon near those vital buildings (as well as places like hospitals and schools and the like) by a filter system. Expecting locations to individually call-in to be put on a black list is completely asinine and not at all the mindset one should have towards mobile applications and the effect they can have to important community institutions.

You would think they wouldn't test launch it in such a massive market, though. I can understand they wanted to make money on the launch and not have to worry about bootlets from other countries, but surely launching in a smaller place (Estonia or something...) would have brought these issues to their attention.

I've never played Pokemon Go, but it seems a lot more sophisticated than other smart phone games, like Fruit Ninja and Angry Birds. And, just to set the record straight, this game does not make people stupid, but rather, it makes them act like fools because they're so fixated on the augmented reality of the game. If you think about it that way, then it isn't too different than you or I being absorbed by a good anime or video game, with the only difference being that we aren't oblivious to our surroundings. Yes, I'm worried about players walking into busy intersections and getting hit by a car, but I'm far more concerned about the number of people who text and drive, because they pose a much greater risk to themselves and others.
Seriously, don't text and drive. It can wait.

You're right, the game doesn't make them stupid. They were already stupid. The game just brings them out of their basement dwellings and demonstrates their stupidity to the world. But by doing that with stupid people, it also makes them dangerous to themselves and others. That's why a few police officers have made some fun videos showing some helpful tips for staying safe when you're out hunting your prey.
Then again, perhaps by getting those obsessive gamers to actually come outside, they might see that there is more to this life than video games, and maybe they'll decide to become a part of it.
