whenevr a trashy fanservice show turns into a trashy action show I am reminded of seikon no qwaser and how it handled that transition perfectly.

Sekirei - With a premise that boils down to "Pokemon with hot chicks instead of monsters" it's amazing the show isn't trashier.

Sekirei is definitely worthy of being on my shelf, which is why it has been there for several years. I bought the first release of each season and have watched them several times, so far.

If you want a serious story you will probably be disappointed, but that is not what I wanted from Sekirei and I never thought that it was trying to be serious.
All that I wanted from the show was ecchi fun and action, and that is exactly what it gave me.
I consider Sekirei to be a good companion to Ikki Tousen, Koihime Musou, and Queen's Blade.

My problem with the first season is that it doesn't quite adapt the bridge climax as well as the manga portrayed it while the second season... yeah, still haven't finished it even though I've had the complete set since it came out.

I'm not a fan of the manga's idea to keep spoiler[Homura as a... undefined...] so I don't want to see what the anime does. Also, there's no great set piece like the bridge so there's only the winging I think.

It's not like the manga did anything really good after the bridge bit anyway; This isn't Pokémon with boobs, Pokémon did things. This is boobs with more boobs on top.

I do have the show but it's in my "sell" pile. And it's been there for two years...

As a someone who enjoys fanservice shows quite a bit, I found Sekirei to be very good. I'm not sure the "Anime Classics: line has a whole lot to do with overall quality, but rather, how well the show performed during its initial release. That seems to determine whether something is re-released under Funimation's "Anime Classics" or "S.A.V.E." lines.

If there are two shows on the list I have to buy it's 'Index II' and 'C Control'. So far I have the other 'A Certain..' I picked up 'Index', 'Railgun' and 'Railgun S'. Still need the movie though. I'm going to have to check out Sekiremi eventually. Well, I did kind of watch one ep but never went any further. Not because I thought it was bad. It's just that I can't even remember watching it, but I did attempt to.

@Credibility6

You should put a picture that shows the whole collection in one shot. I'd like to see what it looks like as a whole, hard to tell with just the series of close ups. Cool collection in any case. Smile

Sekirei was one of the first ecchi manga I read. I'd rank it quite a bit higher than most of the other ecchi manga I've read since. The manga story has concluded I believe, so I'm really hoping one we'll get a conclusion in anime form. The first two anime seasons were ok as far as ecchi-action series go. Definitely better than the crop of ecchi in more recent seasons.

In fact, I think we've reached some kind of ecchi plateau because I haven't seen a memorable ecchi series since Infinite Stratos, Freezing, Hagure Yuusha no Aesthetica, and Highschool DxD (but HS DxD went downhill in its last season).

Sure To-Love-Ru is still churning out OVAs every now and then but there's a lack of variation that I feel is necessary to keep things fresh and exciting.

Masou Gakuen HxH has enough to hold my attention for now but that's mainly because I'm seeing huge similarities with Infinite Stratos, which is a good formula to follow, but I'm hoping it pushes the boundaries as the series progresses. I hear talk of very titillating things happening in the light novels that if adapted right could make MG HxH a strong contender for ecchi of the year, but we'll have to see.

I actually thought that the serious aspects were one of the show's strengths. Characters had well thought out backstories and I really did care about them.

Sekirei is a definite must own for me but I understand why people dislike the end of seson 2. It was definitely a mistake to try to bring in what was happening at the time of the shows release in the manga early in the anime thus ruining spoiler[Uzumi's death entirely]. A little bit better writing for the second half of season 2 would have went a long way towards making the show even better. I also agree that the bridge scene and spoiler[the winging/emerging of Homura/Kagari was better in the manga.] It just seemed a lot funnier. That said, I loved the rewrite of spoiler[Kazehana's Emergence/Winging.] That was way better than the manga and a bright spot in season 2.

Sekirei turned out to be a bit better than I initially gave it credit for. Furthermore, it actually managed to be funny more often than not, which is actually an accomplishment, given what kind of rote, trite humor most harem goes for. My favorite funnybone tickler was when spoiler[one of the antagonist Sekirei -- the twin-tailed tsundere-like redhead, I think -- called the Izumi Inn and tried to get Kusano to turn the phone over to Miyabi.]

It's just a shame that it'll never be completed, like so many other shows.

I originally found it surprising when I learned Sekirei's creator was a yaoi mangaka.

After it was promised to be a messiah, Fractale has itself been S.A.V.E.d. It's almost beautiful.

As an older fan, I still am amazed how affordable Anime has become today. I mean, the entire first season of Bleach for $35 on Blu Ray? I remember I was a junior in college when Bleach premiered and they were just starting to release thin packs of shows for $40-60 on DVD. The CWCLV is only $12 on Blu Ray? I remember seeing that in the theater in NYC and my tickets were $15 and you can own it on HD BD for $12. It's awesome.

Great collection too. I always wish I had friends like you to ask to borrow titles from. Your collection is very impressive! Love all the box sets.
