The final nail in the coffin for consoles in Japan is here. Great job, Nintendo.

What are you talking about, they're still making consoles.

Well, let's see if the people in Japan get as many incidents to inattentiveness as in other countries. Or if Pokémon GO will catch on at all.

Well, if it's true that most young Japanese experience the Internet solely via mobile, I'd say that it'll be a success assuming smartphone penetration is high enough.

Forgot to mention that I'm glad it's out in Japan. It may have been a long couple of weeks for some, but I'm sure they're happily scouring their cities/their nearest McDonalds location, catching as many Pokemon as possible.

Now the Japanese will finally get to set off on their own real-world adventures to catch some Pokémon. Smile Of course, I'm curious as to where most Fire-type and Ground-type Pokémon will appear since Japan isn't known for having arid areas...

And no, the Japanese debut of Pokémon GO does not mean Nintendo will abandon the console market.

Well, what I mean is not if the mobile presence in Japan is big enough to support Pokémon GO, but if they will be willing to accept a Pokémon game made by an American company. (Between American games of Japanese franchises rarely ever selling well and the Pokémon environment being so very different in Japan compared to anywhere else in the world.)

You should know that young Japanese love the Americans culture and everything America related so yes. The acceptance will be there.
WHAT we call weaboo in the West, exists as the complete contrary in Japan as well.

Oh, I definitely know about that. One of my favorite groups of people to observe are Japanese bronies.

But are there really that many of them? The only way to find out is to wait and see how popular Pokémon GO becomes in Japan.

Oh, it's popular enough.

I've seen many people walking around playing the game, it was the morning talk in the office, and many people I know had been looking forward to the release. Also all the gyms here are occupied by some really high-level Pokemon so I'm pretty sure there's some money being exchanged.

Wow, thanks for the input! Looks like Niantic was right when they predicted they'd need to expand in order to serve Japan.

If by everything American related it you mean movies, then sure. Japan loves American movies. When it comes to other things like video games though most American games do poorly in Japan. You get a few which can sell a few hundred thousand, but 99% of American games are ignored in Japan. However mobile gaming is pretty much universal so if it does well in Japan and I wouldn't be surprised. Mobile games are pretty simple and all similar cashgrabs.

Went to the station tonight and there were a lot of players. At least 20-30. There are a number of Pokestops around the station and like three lures. I got to help defeat and hold the gym at the McDonald's for like 2 minutes before it was overtaken again. Anime hyper

I've seen married couples going around as well as younger folk. Yeah, this game is popular. Just checked the Japanese App Store and it's at the top of free apps and top grossing.

Better call an ambulance, undertaker, and the local miko (as I see some idiots wandering around in places where curses and hauntings occur).
