Hey, something positive finally came as a result of the live action film.

I'll probably pick this up if it proves to be significantly nicer than the old editions.

Nice to see Ghost In the Shell get a deluxe release hopefully will make a new generation of fans I've already read it all so not being the hardcore completist I once was I don't feel the biggest desire to buy it.

I wish they went the route DC Comics goes with their "Absolute Editions". That would be an amazing deluxe edition of GITS if they went for that massively sized format. Hopefully this set will be housed in a slipcase.

I'm pretty sure Dark Horse released GitS in right-to-left format at some point, but then Kodansha's re-release was in left-to-right again for whatever reason. There was also a page that was censored if I'm not mistaken. Hopefully this new edition won't have that.

They released 1.5 unflipped, but the others, even the uncensored rerelease of GiTS 1, were flipped.

This version will have the sex scene on the yacht, but I already have the 2011(10?12?) copy of Ghost in the Shell, and a one-page sex scene doesn't really count for much when I'm looking for transhumanist cyberpunk science fiction. I'll pass.

Konansha have released a right to left uncensored version in English before. I have a copy they released as a bilingual version which has English text and a Japanese translation is written in the margins. I think it was designed to be a study guide or something, but it reads just fine.

I already own the first Kodansha print, so this is kind of disheartening for me. I may or may not double dip because I really can't stand flipped manga.

The article is a bit misleading about prior US releases.

Dark Horse first issued Ghost in the Shell in comic book (floppy) form in 8 issues between March 1995 and October 1995. It issued it in graphic novel form in December 1995. This 1st edition was lacking two pages of fairly explicit lesbian sex in color and was in the same trim size as the comics, roughly 7 by 10 inches. It read left to right.

The release mentioned in the article was the 2nd edition in October 2004. It restored the missing two pages but used a smaller trim size of 5 3/4 by 8 1/4 inches. It also read left to right. As far as I know these were the only two editions issued by Dark Horse. No right to left version was issued.

The first Kodansha edition came out in October 2009. It was the same size as the Dark Horse 1st edition and like that was missing the two color pages. It also read left to right.

I'm fairly sure that was issued by Kodansha's Japanese branch in Japan. While a few copies were undoubtedly imported, it was likely not intended for the North American market.

Well, it looks like this'll be like the 3rd or 4th time I buy the manga. In a way, I'm glad I didn't buy the earlier (current) Kodansha Comics release now that they're putting out this new edition. If anything, maybe we'll get a new preface or afterword by Shirow.

And if they are going to re-release it you have to put the "smut" back in . The last releases of the GiTS manga, those color pages were removed. In fact I remember some people who didn't even know that they were in their in the first place. I have the original JP prints. The 2nd half of the story came with a mouse pad.

I did enjoy the first half of the series. I couldn't get into the 2nd half. Maybe I wasn't up on the material as far as understanding this super VR world that took place in between the real world. Thus GiTS. Maybe if I go back I might have a better understanding now that I'm finally understanding how AR works. But glad to see this finally make a come back. I may have to pick this up for our collection. The question is whether to keep or withdraw the older versions.

I'd be more happier if Masamune Shirow would add maybe new short story to it or something.

I've always enjoyed his main stream work, i wish he would do little more in Ghost in the Shell beyond what we have now.

I second that. It would be interesting to see.

Here's hoping that GitS 2 will be completely uncensored this time around, but sadly I doubt it will be.
