Aside from Lauren's review and Macross World users, who says this? Most Gundam fans I've encountered have a very favorable view of X (and "slow pacing" isn't exactly a complaint that shows up often, if anything the usual complaint is the ending being rushed).

FWIW, X is one of the lower rated Gundam TV installments by users on both MAL and Anime Planet (only Victory, ZZ, AGE, and G-Reco were rated lower by users on both sites). On its own its ratings are still pretty solid (7.4/10 on MAL and 3.4/5 stars on AP), they're just on the lower end of the spectrum by Gundam standards.

I've seen a lot of Gundam installments, and Gundam X was easily one of my favorites...even after being cancelled and having a rushed conclusion. I don't see why it's reputation is bad. The only thing wrong with it is that it should have been the normal 50ish episodes for a Gundam to properly expand on some things.

It's a wonder I haven't ordered Gundam X yet. I need to do that immediately.

Same here, I liked it quite a bit.

As a dub fan I just wish it could have gotten one from Rightstuf/Sunrise now that we've finally gotten it. Thought it might have had a shot since it was one of the earlier ones to have a relatively modern style unlike the truly older ones that have proven to be harder sells here due to their age, though even some of the newer ones with still upcoming releases like G-Reco apparently still aren't getting them either sadly so I guess it was obvious X wouldn't. Though thankfully IBO finally got us a new full series getting a dub outside of the OVAs (Unicorn/Origin/Thunderbolt).

I don't really remember my thoughts about the pacing since I think I expected a ~50 ep show back when I was watching the earlier episodes and only found out about it's shortening later when I got further into the show. I'm looking forward to revisiting this now that I've got the DVDs. Can't wait to see it in this better video quality.

X is one of those series that is widely liked by "Gundam fans", but generally not as well-regarded by wider anime-viewing audiences. I never really understood why, but it's definitely not just this site and Macross World that consider it a weaker Gundam series; people were talking this way about the show way back in the Anime Web Turnpike and GundamProject days.

Honestly this has drawn less of a response than I was expecting. I too rather liked X as well, though I can't really say it's among the best Gundam series. It's not among the worst either like G-Wrecko for instance but still. I guess opinions like this from, let's say, more general audiences like Mr. Beckett here is why it was cut short in the first place. I would like to see what his opinion of the rest of the series is though, in the hopes that the rest of the series changes his opinion on the matter.

I've been around the Gundam fandom for a very long time and Gundam X has always had a neutral reaction from most Gundam fans (and that's really saying something). I really don't understand this narrative that it's infamous within the fandom and has a bad reputation. I mean it was canceled during it's original run, but so was the original Mobile Suit Gundam. There are a lot of theories out there why X was canceled; low Gunpla sales (biggest reason), time slot change, Evangelion, and also the fact it was the third AU series for the third year in a row on TV. All of these factors contributed to it's demise on Japanese television.

However just because the show was canceled doesn't mean it should hold a stigma. I've never seen X until a few months ago when RightStuf released both DVD sets. I bought both and enjoyed X very much. It's not my favorite Gundam series, but it's a very enjoyable series. I think the biggest thing I liked about X was the setting. The earth is in this Mad-Max like setting. The war completely ravaged the planet, there is no stable government, and anarchy reigns over most of the continents. It's definitely a setting we haven't seen in Gundam before or since then.

The characters are also very likable, and I like the fact that Garrod is just a normal pilot and not some Newtype. Granted the show does start off slow, but it's a fun ride and by the time the series is almost over, I was wanting more. The last arc in particular was probably the best arc, shame it was cut short. Plus the opening and ending theme songs are so addictive!

Overall I would definitely recommend Gundam X, especially for Gundam fans who haven't seen it and were on the fence about purchasing. It's worth it.

I actually like Gundam X better than Gundam Wing. The story pulled me in better than the shoot, shoot, shoot, Gundam Wing story. Having watched the entire series multiple times, and having subtitled it for myself, long before it was released commercially, I can recommend this one to anyone. And I own both the Laser Discs and the DVDs from Japan.

One thing that bothered me was that just as the series seemed to find its pace they cut it off. My friends and I were really interested in the newest characters that were introdiced in the last 10 or so episodes.

I really wouldn't trust MAL overall ratings, I've seen a huge chunk of their bottom few hundred titles which consists mostly of experimental shorts, claymation shorts, untranslated pre-70s anime, and stuff made by the people that would make the Neptunia games. With few exceptions, none of them live up to the awfulness. Confused With that said.... Eh, that's understandable, although the article uses language that makes X sound like its notorious and not in the suave Sly Cooper way.

So basically it's a reverse SEED/Destiny? Razz .... Which is weird since X is in my top five Gundam series with both CE series, Victory, and 00 Season 2 taking up space.... Then again Double X is my third favorite gundam after Madnug and the Duel, so maybe there is a bias in this somewhere.

Much to even my surprise, home sales are consistently high with G-Reco. (why AZ is grouped in I have no idea) Calling it a wreck is pretty much an American thing. Someone at some point should do an article comparing Gundam fans from Japan and English speaking communities at some point, it's amazing how differently they see some entries. Apparently Turn A is seen as a franchise killer over there (not that I'd disagree given the staff's intent, but whatever).

Well, for better or worse, it is the second most recent Gundam series, and that counts for something. Even I saw it all the way through. Wreck is perhaps not the best way to describe my feelings towards the series but it works the best phonetically. Mess would be more apt, especially the plot. A little more complicated politics than one side against the other doesn't hurt and is frankly expected from a Gundam series (here's looking at you much of AGE) but the ever shifting and expanding web of alliances and enemies and rivals makes the plot of Reco just too convoluted. The mecha design of some of the mechs wasn't great either for me at least. This is not really the place so I'll leave it at that.

I imagine Aldnoah Zero was grouped together as it is a mecha series from the past few years. Why you question its presence and not Cross Ange's is an interesting question. I far from hated the series, but if any of the four don't belong, that's the one and not A/Z.

Hopefully this is the next Gundam coming to BD in Japan so it can come out here not to long after. Been waiting quite a while for it to come here, so I don't mind waiting a bit longer, but I do want to buy this eventually Anime smile + sweatdrop
