Well, it's open to girls between 12 and 25 years old.
I think it would be better to take a 12-16 years old girl since the main target audience are young boys and teens. I think they can relate better to someone who's close to their own age.
I mean, it's not like they are looking for a moderator or a singer. She just has to be cute, kinda like a new shounen jump mascot :3
And remember that she will get older quickly. If she would be 25 when she starts and she's the jump girl for maybe around 10 years, she already would be old enough to be the mother of some of the youger readers xD

I always figured kids are drawn to works of fiction about people older than they are, hence the huge amount of stories aimed at children that are about high schoolers.
