Wonder if viz would copy this here? Id glad not pay for the ecchi and het titles (nisekoi, yuuna or whatever that mess is), as well as not pay and read badly written manga like Toriko and One Piece.

Wait, is this a service where instead of paying a fee to subscribe to all the manga they offer, you pay a fee per manga you want to read? If that's what it is, that's really awesome and I hope it comes to the US. I only read One Piece, Bleach (which is ending anyway), One Punch Man (which matters because it's in the US Weekly Jump), and My Hero Academia, and I'd love to pay for them but buying the entire WSJ has never been too attractive to me, and also from what I've seen of their interface they put spoilers right in the menu you pick your chapters from, so hopefully this would improve on that too.

Worth noting the preview images didn't have a lot of currently-running manga, some long series like One Piece aside. Not sure it's going to let users have stuff like Hero Academia and Food Wars.
Seems more like a nice way to experience old series as if they were new and still serialized. The ads weren't explicit about it, so we'll see when the app launches. |

See, this is a kind of service I'd like for translated digital serializations. Something tiered where you could subscribe to X number of series for X price. That way you don't feel like you're wasting your money because you're only interested in a fraction of the lineup. But you're not stuck paying $2-3 per chapter like with Yen Press' simulpubs.

Eh. Viz's official English WSJ is only $25 a year, frequently discounted down to $20. Literal pocket change per issue. Way cheaper than a Japanese WSJ subscription, for what it's worth. The best deal you can get in Japan, 1500 yen for 3 months (recurring), comes out to about $60 a year, USD. |

Yeah, a la carte services like these will all come down to their prices. I don't know if it'll be comparable to what Viz is currently offering. I read every series in Viz's Shonen Jump, good or bad though.

Without knowing the pricing or series, it's really too soon to judge this though. I think that discussion will need to wait till next week.
I know, right? I was surprised to see people complain about it's cost. Even if you only read a few series, that's still far cheaper then anything else available. Usually it's $1 per chapter (or more) for a single series. Even if you don't get it at $20 (which it is as of this moment) and get it for $26, that's still just ~$0.54 an issue. WSJ in Japan is a couple of bucks an issue, so it's really surprising that we get it for a fraction of the cost, even if we have fewer titles (about half). |

That being said, Viz also gets to skip raw materials, equipment, and all middlemen. I'll bet over three-quarters of the cost of WSJ goes towards that. |

I wouldn't be surprised if Viz does this here in the USA.
And it would be a service available for tablet computers (iPad or Android tablet) similar to what Comixology does for American-produced comics. Imagine being able to get the latest manga serials--fully translated into English!--within 24 hours of the day it is released in Japan. |
