This is the first soccer anime I've seen since Area no Kishi, which was awhile ago. Days seems to be doing a decent job at introducing the characters so far especially Jin and Tsukushi.

Character chemistry is what I enjoy the most out of the series so far and they are portraying Tsukushi as an underdog. A decent start so far, not extraordinary amazing imo but definitely on the right track.

I'm enjoying it, but I have two worries going forward.

1: I don't care about soccer, so having it become a bigger and bigger part of the show without actually showing cool match (which I can enjoy watching just for the spectacle) is a bit worrying, the first match was done far better than the one for episode 3

2: I really like that the main character is bad at it and he's not shown to have some god given ability that make him capable of competing with people who've been doing sport all there live, but it seems like every episode the is show is trying to claw this notion back. Now apparently because he ran a lot he has more stamina/speed than people 2 year older than him that have been doing sport all that time and there's all this stuff about him being "predestined" to become the captain.

This anime is so gay I love it.

That's not it. It was touched a bit in episode 3.
He's quite similar to the captain of his team, as the two of them never played Soccer before highschool. He's an hard-worker, and he got a real passion for soccer, always trying to improve himself.

Episode 2 was straining my suspense of desbelief, and Episode 3 killed it and buried it five meters deep into the ground.

I know that most people don't care much about football and in most sports manga and anime the focus is usually on character chemistry and stuff but GOD, I couldn't take it.

First off, of course Tsukamoto only knows how to run...because nobody taught him anything else! The hell is up with this team's training? Why is he on a practice match when he clearly can't play yet? Fire that coach! At least tech him how to dribble (run with the ball)! Or better, don't, because the only time he is taught anything, it doesn't make any freaking sense. For the sake of making the captain sound funny, he never explains how to actually strike and goes all "Eh, I don't know much about theory" and then he literally makes a by the book strike: firm pivot step just beside the ball and then hit it with your instep to give it direction, it's what the blonde guy did when making try shoots. There is also the hip movement and other stuff but that's pretty much the gist of it. This scene was so obviously cheap and cheesy that I just wanted to skip it.

By the way, that overheel kick looked awesome until the guy landed on his feet. That just never happens.

And when they're playing a game, it's so unintense (and needless to say, nonsensical) that I don't care about this "We're having fun!" I would want to shoot myself if I was playing a match like that. Were they really close to lose? Maybe? At best the other team shot like, once, and the game after that is basically someone having the ball and getting it stolen, people making passes that lead to nothing, a goal that comes almost out of nowhere...and four guys running with Tsukamoto. Why. Why in the hell there are four guys running with him?! At least two of those shouldn't be where Tsukamoto is, considering their positions.

The character chemistry COULD drive this anime forward for me, but it's just barebones, I probably could get the same thing from reading a BL manga. I really could go on and on with this, but I just won't bother with this show so it would basically be hating for hating, and I really don't wanna do that.

The character designs are nice and appealing, but story needs a little more.

It might just be me but it feels like there are quite a few 'feel good' shows this season. This one has been a pleasure to watch. Of course this and others aren't really ground breaking but I find myself looking forward to them every week.

Yeah, agreed. There really is an abundance of pleasantness this summer. I hope this trend continues. I even had to scoot several of the ones I want to watch to my "marathon at the end" list because I found so much to like.

When in the chronology did this episode occur? Because didn't they have a manager the whole time? Or am I losing it?

Maybe their previous manager graduated or moved or something to make room for Chikako, who might as well have been wearing a sash saying, "future team manager." I.e., they saw her coming and got the hell out of her way.

I'm really loving this show. Every time everyone puts Tsukushi and he just turns around and shows just how amazing he his, I just can't help but cheer. Whether it was all of the other first years joining him in the runs, or him leading the charge up the stairs, and now this episode. I'm really rooting for this kid.

To be fair, everybody's eyes were shining (or maybe it was just the blinding glare reflected off his chest) except Chikako's, and that was only because she was too busy watching Tsukushi.

I'm pretty sold at Tsukushi x Chikako loveteam. But really, TomoSeki's Indou Kaoru plunged me into this series so deep. Such good voiceacting.

Usually by this point in a sports anime, I have an opinion about whether the sport is animated anywhere close to reality, but we've seen so little actual soccer, I can't really tell you.

Well, i'm no expert, but i'm pretty sure someone like Tsukushi with zero skills would never ever get to play in a regular match "to brighten the mood" IRL! At this pace, he'll be going pro within a couple of more episodes...:roll

I agree that he's adorable and part of me finds the "rookie makes the team on enthusiasm alone" pretty charming, especially compared to the tiresome "rookie makes the team because he's such an awesome genius", but damn i felt bad for that senpai! Actually, i felt bad for everyone who didn't get picked over Tsukushi...but what really puzzled me was that there was virtually no resentment and everybody was completely fine with it. And then, to top it all off, the rival captain instantly fell in love with him! He's like a soccer!Naruto Laughing

So yeah, i'll probably keep watching this for the gay character interaction, but if you want to learn anything about soccer, you're probably better off watching Giant Killing.

I think the resentment wasn't there past the initial shock and grumbling because a) there was nothing he could do about it except quit the team (and no one expected that) and b) he was even more miserable about it than they were. Since it's not a player decision, resentment comes in when the one chosen acts like they totally deserved it when others vehemently disagree.

I think I've only seen someone even close to this upset over being picked in one other sports anime, but I can't remember what it was. But from what I do remember, it was more a "sure, I was hoping for it, but X deserves it more," with everyone else saying, "no, you deserve it."

But seriously, Tsukushi practically redefines magic pixie dream boy. Very Happy

Watching Days has made me realise how numb I've become to how strange cute girl shows are. Days weird's me out with how it is intentionally made to make you go "awwww" for a character who's designed to be as be as pitiful as possible. Yet when it's a show consisting of nothing more substantial than close ups on exaggerated facial reactions of similarly portrayed teenage girls, I feel nothing.
