Surprised this was news considering you cant really bring a phone with a camera on it into many federal locations. Often have to leave it in the car etc.

I work in a large federal agency with some significant security concerns and federal employees (but not private citizens, I believe) are free to bring phones (and laptops, etc) of all sorts in. We're not military, and some kind've phone taboo may be more common with military facilities, but I don't think it's unheard of for them to be allowed.

Well...No surprise here, since people are prohibited from using a cell phone within a federally-protected area, anyway.

Interesting. I think they're kinda over-doing it since the app is no where near "pinpoint" accurate....

Maybe they've got Farraday cages or something built around the most secure areas of the Pentagon, but I don't see why most phones wouldn't be able to get a signal throughout most of the facility.

Pentagon is/in a very large metropolitan area, of course you can get signal in the building. Also unless one has never seen the building before, there are tons of windows for the building.

Well, yeah, but I can't even get a signal from inside my apartment, so I don't think that's specific to federal agencies. Razz

I work at a Federal agency and I would say that pretty much everyone working here (including myself) has their smartphone with them (I'm listening to music on mine right now as I work) and it's pretty much impossible to get one without a camera. We are prohibited from making/receiving calls in the work area (though I have seen a few people breaking this rule) and, of course, no picture taking is allowed in the facility.

I guess it's because they secretly have a Deoxys down there and want to hide it.

Depends on where you work. Trust me. I work for them.

I also work in a federal facility. The phone is not the issue. The camera is. Most federal facilities have a ban on taking pictures or filming. Most federal agencies have their own police department, and they can confiscate your camera or phone for taking pictures, filming, or recording audio. In many instances, it's not only for security, but also privacy concerns, such as HIPPA regulations in the VA.

It isn't, but it's still accurate enough to track where particular people go and if they have any routine travel habits. If you can identify the individual, that's a lot of valuable information right then and there.

As someone already said, it doesn't have to be accurate, just close.

Also, if you are playing Pokemon Go in the halls of the Pentagon, or even in your work center, then you are going to have other problems, besides just getting hit for playing the game in the Pentagon.
