Well, that PV was short. I really like the art style for the characters, and Hiroshi Kamiya and Maaya Sakamoto are definite pluses for me.

I almost never watch PVs; are they usually this short?

No. The preview usually range from 15 secs to 3 mins. The first pv are oftenly less than one minute while the 2nd pv are more than one minute. The first pv are referred as "teaser" as they only show how the anime will look like. 2nd pv are called "full" trailer showing the animation, art, casts, etc. 3rd and 4th pv are the same as the 2nd pv adding different scenes, previewing OP/ED.

This is as far as I know.

It would be more interesting if they were making the Japanese equivalent of a Merriam-Webster or Oxford English Dictionary. I say this because I consider those dictionaries the English dictionaries.

Daitokai, the dictionary compiled in the novel Fune o Amu, is a "mid-sized" dictionary, and it has approximately 230,000 entries. So Daitokai is a Kōjien-class dictionary.

現在、辞書編集部は週に一度、『大渡海』の編集方針について会議を行っている。 『大渡海』の見出し語の数は、約二十三万語を予定していた。 『広辞苑』や『大辞林』と同程度の規模の中型国語辞典だ。

You can see Kōjien and Daijirin on the table in a photo from the live-action film Fune o Amu.
Scale-wise, the "feel" of Kōjien is something between Random House Webster's Unabridged Dictionary and a "college" dictionary.
In his essay on dictionaries, Professor Mark Petersen wrote about his having wanted to be able to use Kōjien in his student days. I wonder whether the anime version of Fune o Amu will inspire anime otaku who learn Japanese but have not yet reached the level where they can use Kōjien.
