The difference is this version of Pokemon Go is there to help you track your missing wallet. Get it? 'Cus crime is rampant in Brazil, 'cus the police are corrupt. Laughing

I just know that if Tokyo's opening ceremony doesn't drop an Akira reference, I will be sorely disappointed.

Pokémon go is a pop culture talk phenomenon to this extend now huh? Could be bigger if they handled the game better.

I will look forward to an Akira reference. The IOC's pretty bold to select Tokyo for the 2020 games.

I don't see why. Japan has held Olympics before.

The reason is because Akira happens to be set in the year 2020, and the third act takes place in a stadium that was supposed to be used for the Olympics that year.

And yes, but why does that mean the IOC is bold.

It's still not a bold choice because, get this, the IOC might not even be aware that they're alluding to Akira. Besides, it's a joke that not that many people will get when compared to the number of people who watches the Olympics.

However this Olympic showing of Pokémon GO will play out, I'm sure it will be a showstopping experience! Smile

Personally, I am hoping for an full scale recreation of the episode of SD Gundam in which the ensemble cast participate in their own Olympics.

The IOC would have to modify the Zeon flag a little, of course.

Well, no Pokemon Go (unless it's going right now while commercials are on), but the Prime Minister becoming Mario and using a warp pipe to get to Rio was pretty awesome.

[edit] Oh, hey, it's still going now.

So, for references, we've got a soccer anime, Hello Kitty, Doraemon, and Mario references so far. And the final music cue was music from the Pokemon games.

Captain Tsubasa deserves more love.

I don't care for or watch sports anime, so I didn't know what it was.
