Another great anime that will go to AoA.... I feel sorry for future anime fans that wants to pick up old classics like this one. Despite AoA create great dubs (well nothing is in house but you know what i meant) their prices are outrageous.

One of my faves. I'd be excited if AoA were planning a release because the DVD quality was never very good on the various funi releases. The illegal hd tv rips looked better

You mean about Birdy in general? It's by no means a masterpiece, but it's a solid enough story with some good characters (mostly Birdy herself). It's mostly notable because the showrunners let the animators do their thing. It certainly didn't have a large budget, but you can tell the animators did their best to make the show entertaining. I enjoyed it. |

Wow, this one is still in my watch pile; I had to stop watching when Birdy left Earth and did a mission while no one missed the guy on earth. I think he called out sick? Really, that was it?
Wow, not only does the guy doesn't matter in the plot, he doesn't even matter in his own life. Yeah, this is one of those series that's better as one sentence description. But it's now going the ANIway of Nerima Daikon Brothers... whatever happened to Nerima Daikon Brothers anyway? I treasure my ADV set but is that one even streaming? |

I really like it! The first season starts off strong, but gets derailed by pacing problems and never really recovers. Fortunately, the second season is superior in pretty much every way, and makes the show as a whole worth watching. As previously mentioned, its greatest strength is its top-tier fight scene animation. The final battle at the end of the show is my favorite animated fight scene ever (and yes, I have seen One Punch Man). |

This is a fun little show. Its not perfect or a masterpiece, but I found the show to be a lot of fun and the second season stands out with its fight sequences and a more engaging story. Its something that I can turn on and just enjoy it for what it is. I'm glad I own the thinpak DVDs but it makes me darn sad that it wont be available for other people to own. The show didn't make that big of a splash on either side of the Pacific, so chances of a re-release (and in BD) from someone else are low. It may find its way to a streaming service, but the way things are with so much content being put out it will probably struggle to stand out among newer offerings and eventually disappear.
The other sad part is that the original 1990s OVAs, which I also own and this Decode series only adapt parts of the manga and don't tell the whole story. I think the manga ended and its not available here, so there's no way to finish it and makes it less likely for it to have another season. Ahhh! I want more Birdy!! |

As someone who had the privilege of getting one of the animators to autograph my copy, it's sad to hear that another Aniplex title is no longer under Funimaton's label. I would be happy if AOA would actually announce any future plans for re-releasing even their older titles but I'm glad I got the S.A.V.E edition years ago.
Birdy the Mighty Decode doesn't have the best writing and has many plot contrivances that sounds silly when you think too much about it spoiler[like how Senkawa's crush is turned into a ticking time bomb and Birdy feels guilty since her assignment is to kill Senkawa's girlfriend]. What I love about the series is the animation; some of the most eccentric and fluid fights I've seen in a late 2000s anime.If you've seen the Sean Bires Sakuga YouTube video, then you might remember this scene. The second season finale fight is absolutely bonkers with the burst of animation so, for me, Birdy is a more of a visual treat than anything substantial. |

Well it's already in SAVE set status anyway, so it was only a matter of time before Funi didn't bother to renew their license for it and let it go out of print. People act like Aniplex is forcibly taking it away from them.

I just don't understand why anyone would go to any length to defend that company and it's business practices like literally ever. They're like an even more overpriced "premium market" version of Bandai Visual. |

Bummer, that this incredibly underrated sci-fi show is going out of print. I'm big fan of both seasons and I really like the stories and characters.
Luckily I've got my copy of the show already. |
