Not more of the open world meme.

Now it sounds like the game will just be MGSV with a different setting.

Why do I get the feeling this will be way better than Silent Hills could ever have been?

Perhaps it might, but as a Silent Hill fan who has been devastated by the creatively bankrupt garbage that was Homecoming, Revelations (the 2nd movie, IMHO one of the worst adaptations ever made. I'd rather rewatch The Last Airbender film then this garbage), and the horribly handled HD collection (Downpour wasn't terrible, but it was mediocre and had wasted potential) I honestly feel Silent Hill had become one of the most depressing fanbases to be a part of due to the current creative teams handling it. Kojima and del Toro (and the mangaka who did Uzumaki was helping even) could have risen the series out of this abyss but then that dream was ripped apart so it has made the state of the series all the more depressing to look at. Silent Hill 2 and 3 (and 1 to a lesser extent) I think are the magnum opus of survival horror and it's a sad state to see the current games and media be so gawd awful.

And honestly horror games with actual gameplay are becoming a rarity these days. I'm sure Death Stranding will likely be good and intriguing but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping Kojima and del Toro were working on a horror game that would at least be Silent Hill-style. Because after stomping us in the face multiple times Konami thinks it can make us SH fans happy by throwing pachinko machines at us. SIGH...............

Still, no matter how devastating it is Konami probably would have screwed the game up anyway, and eventually some independent game company will dredge up the 'nostalgia' of the classic horror games and make something brilliant. Give it time; everything that was will be again.

MGSV was a solid first attempt at open world design just poorly executed and bit spare in unique details and elements. We shall see what Hideo learned from the first go around.

MGSV was alright though but I gave up on it during that shitty second half because I don't want to repeat missions, but it didn't need to be an open world game, mixing stealth with open world was odd to say the least.

That's disappointing. MGSV has the worst open-world since Far Cry 2.

I've honestly never gotten the big deal about this guy at any point to be honest. To me the Metal Gear Solid games are just OKAY as were some of his earlier stuff like ZoE and Snatcher (though far from flawless games even in their own specific contexts) before he just exclusively churned out MGS sequels cause they made the most money (IMO why it's hard to look at him the same way I do a Miyamoto who always seemed to be innovating and challenging himself), they have their own sort of almost graphic novel noir style to them and all that and some quirks and bells and whistles that have become a signature of the guy I suppose but to be honest the only game of his I ever truly got engrossed in was MGS3 and the rest might as well just be a bunch of marketing hype I never had all that much time for.

To me he's like an okay developer but might as well be another one of those blue chip names that companies try to slap on a box to make them sell and he's just passed from one company that absolutely loves to do that to another that loves to do it even more. Whatever this is I'm sure it'll have an unreasonably long development cycle, tons of delays and setbacks to make sure Sony stays pleased and can market it with some sort of add-on or update and a nauseating amount of advertising and shilling FFXV style long before it ever comes out which I'm going to estimate will be 2019 at the absolute earliest. Modern gaming has made me cynical that way, sue me but that's how they seem to like to do things. It's just really hard to get excited for these things that always manage to turn into bloated over marketed clusterfucks of misinformation and grandiose but ultimately empty promises that take forever to come out while you get bombarded with ads and shilled merchandise in the interim and then the result is a usually mediocre game that falls well short of the trumped up expectations.

Sounds like some sort of 4chan nonsense to me. Things don't necessarily have to have coherent and clear meaning to some anymore. I mean last time I checked Open World might be described as a design choice or setting or something along those lines.

Yes, but for $1.99 per outfit.

The description sounds quite a bit like MGSV. Maybe that will be ok for something other than Metal Gear, but since I found that to be the weakest entry in the series, I'm skeptical.

MGSV gameplay was the best of all metal gears. The story is hidden through tapes that you can skip over if you don't take the time to check new added tapes after playing for a while. The only thing I hated was the real time base building stuff but 95% you don't need to mess with. He put everything people wanted in the game tight multi ways to play gameplay and stop making a movie less cut scenes. So i don't know why so many people hate it...
