What a weird statement, even the teen part, but Heat is great. It also has the best film shootout of all time:

This reminds me of an article I read where the guys behind the Netflix Voltron said it would be like Game of Thrones. Cool

I take it that the movie will be just as long as Heat then?

Based on everything we know about this movie so far, I have very low expectations for this. I'm expecting it will be entertaining enough to watch once but it won't be anything special. Still cracks me up that Light's last name was changed to Turner and he's being played by Nat Wolff...LOL

As far as Live-Action hollywood adaptations of Anime go, I'm optimistic about the Ghost in the Shell movie. I like what I've seen of that so far and I think most of the cast look great in their roles. I definitely think the Ghost in the Shell movie will be better then the Death Note movie.

Light begins the series at 17 but it takes place over several years.

If you're going to model your thriller after something, Heat is a good movie to use.

For those of you wondering, Heat is essentially about the relationship between a celebrated detective and a master thief. Both are experts in their fields, and both are personal messes for different reasons. The key of the film is their relationship to their jobs and each other and how it impacts their personal and professional lives.

For most, considering how badly looked upon Near and Mello were, the key to Death Note is the Light/L relationship, which mirrors the one in Heat. Of course, Heat had Al Pachino and Robert De Niro playing the detective and thief respectively.

This movie is going to be garbage. None of these creators have even the slightest idea what Death Note really is.

Going off that statement, their really going to focus on that relationship between Light and L. It could work if they nail the moral ambiguity aspect, which I thought the series failed miserably at,making it very black and white.

That's why I don't get people flipping out over comparisons to Heat. Heat is a crime drama about the relationship between the criminal and a detective chasing him. The strongest parts of Death Note are arguably the relationship between the criminal and the detective chasing him. If you can make that relationship more nuanced than the anime did, you will have created a winner.

I don't know how good this film will be but comparisons to Heat make sense when you consider the story's strengths and weaknesses. Heat is also a long ass movie, so if the film runs that long we won't need a Part 2.

I like the Heat comparison, but not the fact that they're saying it's more violent. I mean, it's a series about death and murder, but it always felt like it was more about the mind games than some gruesome death or sex scenes. AFAIK, most of Light's victims die by heart attack. Violence on its own isn't the problem, but ramping it up and making it the focus over the story and characters is my concern.

If it's like Heat then I'm sold. Heat is a great film, and I really enjoyed the cat and mouse chase aspect of it. If that's something like the end result, then I think that would be a job well done considering. I've said before, but I don't the violence either, if it gives it an edge then as long as it's not just torture or gore porn it shouldn't be too bad. Nothing wrong with marketing a story like death note to adults, and there is nothing wrong with violence inherently, so we'll see.

Honestly, it shouldn't be too bad. As long as it doesn't try to cover the main story entirely and just adapts what it can it should at least be a fun film.

i'm honestly more excited about it than the japanese live action, and it will actually have a decent budget and production value to it. And with that being said, lets see how that all pans out. Shocked
