Personally, I think this show is funny. A bit cliche with some of the characters and their personalities but still really fun to watch. President has been my favorite character so far while I love the chemistry between Usami and Uchimaku.

Can't wait for a certain character to make their official debut soon. Should be fun.

I probably have no business disliking Uchimaki as much as I do. It's definitely a matter of personal preference on my part, but I've never really found the "lack of interest in 3D girls/guys" conceit particularly amusing outside of Genshiken. At this point, it's become such a common staple of otaku characters that hearing "I'm only interested in 2D!" elicits nothing but eye-rolls from me. Maybe we'll soon discover that there's more to his character, but at the moment, this appears to be his entire schtick.

So happy they translated "lolicon" for "pedophile" in the second episode.

I'm with you there as I probably hate Uchimaki the most out of the entire cast. The president is really as a character and Usami is a little too bland for my taste. Another major I have with the show is how jokes always fall flat for me. I think the only reason I have stuck with this show for so long is the opening and the visuals. I think I will give this show another episode before I call it quits. That being said, I can understand why others are enjoying this show.

This is such a dumb comparison. You can like fictional 2D girls and not be a pedophile. He obviously likes lolis but didn't care whatsoever about real little girls.

Certainly that seems to be the case for him (as I hope and presume is the case for most lolicon enthusiasts), but I think their decision to translate it as pedophile is correct, as that is clearly what the president is worried that Uchimaki is becoming. Plus most Japanese people using the word, aside from otaku, mean precisely that.

On another note, Colette is actually named. It says it on her backpack (or randsell if you want to get technical here) along with her class year and number

It literally means pedophile in japanese.
Like said before me, pedophile suits better the scene than the "western meaning" of lolicon.

^It's less "western" than otaku. I'm sure Japanese ones differentiate lolicons from pedophiles as much as western ones do, though they might not use separate words. Plus most westerners would regard people who like 2D little girls to be pedophiles, whether or not one regards that sentiment that as correct, especially considering that some people in western countries have been arrested for possession of child porn for having such material.

I really want to like this show, and truth be told I've gotten a fair amount of enjoyment from each episode so far. And yet...each episode has had that one skit that made me too uncomfortable to really laugh. Humor can be transgressive, or it can mine that thin stretch between awkwardness and outright offensiveness for material, but that's a tough line to walk. Maybe the cultural distance makes it that much harder for me to "laugh it off", or maybe it's just aimed at people who take this stuff less seriously than I do, but the end result is that, at the end of each episode, I remember it more for the moments of discomfort than for any entertainment value.

For now, I'll keep giving it another episode in the hopes that the next one manages to avoid another uncomfortable skit (and hope against hope that it doesn't somehow cross the line even further). If you removed one skit from each of the first two episodes I'd really be psyched for the rest of the show, so I'm holding out hope!

I laughed at the 2nd episode's skit of Uchimaki's painting winning 2nd place Laughing Their responses, while predictable, were still funny.

Which skits in particular? Because it doesn't seem that transgressive to me at least.

There was the bit in the first episode where the pres took an upskirt picture of Usami, which is pervy. Then the second ep's skit about the Uzumaki being a maybe-pedophile, which of course he wasn't, but the long shot of him being creepy around the little girl wasn't funny to me, it was just terrifying.

Of course, lots of shows go much further in those regards- but I don't like those shows much either ; ). And I'm not saying that those jokes are objectively unacceptable and should never be made, or that anyone else is wrong if they have a different reaction to them. I certainly have laughed hard at jokes only to find that other people found them offensive or uncomfortable, so I totally grant that humor can elicit very different responses depending on your experiences.

All I'm saying is that, personally, I haven't been able to enjoy those parts of the show at all. If they continue, I probably will drop it at some point. But that's just me. I have a young cousin whom I am often responsible for, and I worry about watching out for her in public places and have to deal with things like talking to her about potential dangers from strangers or even people at school/summer camp that she knows. So that's where I'm coming from.

But again, the show is pretty fun for me other than those bits, so I'm hoping it gets better and I can enjoy it all the way through.

^Aside from from the core character jokes (Uchimaki's preference of 2D over 3D for example), the show has generally not repeated jokes. Granted there has only been two episodes so the sample size is small.

You are right that compared to other shows, this show's humor is light by comparison. People have different things that set them off so I can understand that despite the prior sentence, you can't stand those particular jokes.

After two episodes this comedic show has been a pleasant surprise for me. I was not convinced if just focusing on 3 characters in the club room was going to work in the long run, but it looks like the show wants to do more that. And the addition of more characters should also help.

This show succeeds for me despite its generic(ness). Anything that can can keep me smiling the whole way through the episode is doing it right in my book.
