Tell me this isn't as skin-crawlingly skeevy as it seems...

3 minutes? 9500 yen? An otaku and his money are easily parted.

Exactly my thought. I hope this doesn't stick around for long. I highly doubt those girls really want to do this.

Every time I think the idol industry cannot sink lower... they manage to dig a lot more into the darkness/creepyness.

At least it makes more sense than those Twitch/Patreon begger women who offer Skype/Discord convos as rewards for donations. These are actual celebrities rather than random internet people.

All things considered, that's not that bad. 9500yen = ~$100, people pay that (and more) already for an autograph from celebrities. For 3 minutes of virtual "private" time? Yeah, I can totally see fans jumping at that chance.

That said, I agree with others. Girls are almost certainly about to see things, things they don't WANT to see. Smartest thing from "management" would be to "monitor" the chat and block "questionable" content.

I wonder if this will be the future of human communication where we all obtain increments of cash in exchange for conversation or messages. If you agree/reply please send £5 to the Hairy Dog bar in Derby.

I am cheaper than the idols. Very Happy

If the people running this are smart, they've selected the more thick-skinned ones, or maybe even ones witty enough to verbally counterattack.

The same people who want the idols to act as pure, cute and "not sexual"* possible in order to lure fans? I see one or two problems there...

I suppose that the chat is for Japan only so is almost zero chance of that happening.
99% of fans are respectful and the only thing they want is support their favorite idol.
And most of people that love idols are not idol otakus, are regular people. But i suppose the idol otaku spend more money to support their favorite idol.

This kind of events are not really that uncommon. There are some live stream sites dedicated to music and idols were some less know idols and idol groups give live performances and chat with fans. Close contact with fans and show the idol as a your everyday boy/girl is what the idol industry was build on.

Depend of what idol you want to chat. Like is write in the article the lower price is 3500 yen, not really that much for the chance to talk to the idol you admire and even request your favorite song..

I seem to recall a certain article a few years back on a certain website called Sankaku Complex, where there was a handshaking event where fans could shake hands with idols, and one of the fans apparently had semen on his hand and knowingly so, shook hands with one of the idols with said semen on his hand. I just can't imagine it ending without at least some sort of incident, like some crazy male fan flashing his genitals on camera to one of the idols.
