I am glad that this time around they are releasing the CE for Amagi Brilliant Park (a TBS title, I assume) along with a standard BD edition. I look forward to finally watching the 13th episode and OVA. And I hope the English dub is good.

Good snag, but I already own the OVA so I don't need it.

Tell that to NBC Universal then and while you're at it, tell them to remaster Tenchi Universe & Magical Project S for Blu-ray too.

Coolness, but when I saw the news I was first like, "Oh wow, they're releasing this??" But then I realized I own this on DVD myself. But at least someone else can enjoy this. I should dig this out and watch it because I really don't remember what it was about. Yeah, gotta get through that DVD pile.

Wow! Total blast from the past here. I remember watching Green Legend Ran on Sci-Fi's Saturday Anime block some 20 years ago. I never got around to picking it up when Pioneer released it on DVD, and I kind of regretted it once it went OoP. I didn't think it'd ever be license-rescued. Sucks that there's no BD release, but I doubt it ever got one in Japan, either. Still, better than nothing. I'll definitely be picking this one up.

I've yet to see a blu release as well.

..and honestly that OOP Pioneer dvd for Green Legend Ran is only good enough as an artifact for the historical collector. Since it's from those earlier days of dvd technology they didn't even bother to include a menu for it. yeah I had the same "huh?" "where's the freakin' menu?!?" Very Happy first time I viewed it (lucky for me I only paid 17.99 for it.)

As for "extras"
Chapter 51 has a very brief interview with the Director and the ED is hard subbed in Japanese for those that want some assistance with doing their own translation (to sing along with). And that's it.

The video quality also leaves a LOT to be desired, and they didn't even bother to translate the ending (as the credits are rolling) so I'm kinda glad this is going to get a modern release. If I remember correctly the only other R1 dvds that also don't include a menu of sorts are the four singles that were released for the goofiness that is AirMaster.

So you didn't miss much!

Now I'm just curious to see how this gets treated by Sentai. There are a lot of old OVA's I'd like to replace or supplement with newer, better looking transfers, actual English dubs instead of sorry excuses for English dubs and all sorts of stuff that weren't possible the first time around. If they add some value to this release they'll certainly be seeing more of my discretionary.

*crosses fingers for Sentai*

Green Legend RAN was one of my first anime that I fell in love with. It would be nice if the transfer were cleaned up a bit and the DVD got a more modern treatment; I agree. I liked the original dub from 1994 but on re watching (which I will be doing soon) I may be disappointed a bit. I love AIC art and what their team did in the 90's. Tenchi Muyo, El Hazard, and Pretty Sammy/Magical Project S are all favorites of mine. Here's hoping that Sentai pulls a Discotech and if they DO redub it (that costs a lot so I don't see why they would) they include both dubs. I wonder if the DVD will be formatted as a movie, or if we will finally see the show in OVA form like it was intended? February will tell. Regardless thanks Sentai.

Really? I own the Pioneer DVDs of the first 3 DBZ movies from around that time and there was no menu at the start but they did appear at the end of the films.

For those that don't know, that's an early 80s anime porn title.

I missed the LD, VHS and Pioneer heyday, and really only learned of Pioneer as I started getting everything I could that had Geneon written on it ( ...cried when they pulled the plug in NA too. Laughing).

So GLR is just a part of that small collection of Pioneer dvds I've kept. I didn't even consider DB until fairly recently so I've yet to buy a single movie from the franchise and would have no idea what those discs are like.

For their release of Green, a one page paper insert for the 51 Chapters is included.

1. Opening: Episode One "Departure"
....
50. "Tears and Rain" Full Length Music Video
51. Director Comments (a brief live-action question answer about what he'd like people to take away from the work.

and that's it. No on screen menu, scene selection, or audio set-up menu (English loads by default).

Funny story here. This (in Japanese ロリータアニメ (にっかつビデオ) ) shares the same name as the very first hentai anime Lolita Anime (ロリータアニメ), released 10 months prior, which incidentally also doubles as the very first loli(underage) hentai animation.

At least Uchiyama Aki was released on Laser-disc at some point, and while I haven't yet looked at the raws for the other (raws for both can be found out there) I assume it to be the same case there. No luck finding any available physical discs for either of them though...
