OVA adaptation of Lodoss is probably my favorite anime fantasy (even if it's pretty much down to the book your classical adventure), so I'm excited for this one.

The plot sounds good enough to make me want to watch it.

Unfortunately in the US, all the Lodoss anime appears to be in licensing hell... Crying or Very sad

...and seeing how this new Grancrest War is an Aniplex project, let's hope the R1/Reg A US release isn't $50 for 4 episodes... Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

I have mixed feelings on this. Lodoss was like a love letter to classic Western fantasy, but design-wise, Grancrest looks more like a "Tales Of" game in comparison, where the fantasy elements come across as more of a window dressing. It seems a bit off, though I do kind of like the color illustrations and technical skill from the book covers. I'll be keeping an eye open for this, I just hope it's more entrenched in classic fantasy, and less in modern tropes.

I wonder if this in any way related to the "Grancrest" Japanese tabletop roleplaying game- the the artwork for the game looks way too much like the novels to be mere coincidence.

EDIT - just looked at the TRPGS website and the same previews there as well.

I know this before. First time I've heard about Record of Lodoss War was back in 2003 (I think). I haven't seen the anime show called Record of Lodoss War. There is also the novel. Originally was Tabletop Role-Playing Game (like Dungeons & Dragons, and Warhammer) for Japan. Then later, Sword World series including Record of Lodoss War. Record of Lodoss War is also part of Sword World franchise (not the Sword Art Online x Accel World by Reki Kawahara. Try to avoid confusing) due to set in Forcelia universe alongside with Legend of Crystania and Rune Soldier. All of Sword World (Forcelia) were created by Ryo Mizuno from Group SNE. So Record of Grancerst War is the sequel to Record of Lodoss War (I believed my guess).

Actually The Record of Lodoss War campagins are closer to a home brew world for AD&D from what I've been able to dig up. Which ironically spread over three different campagines and different parties, the OVA combined all three stories with the first campagins party.

Since it's from the creator of "Lodoss", it would make sense to have Lisa "Deedlit' Ortiz in this should the series get an English dub.

I concur with this. I love Record of Lodoss War, and I've always liked its dub -- the OVA, that is. Lisa was one of the reasons why.
