A lot if these look very good. But there's one thing that gets to me. Why are there events like this called "Grand Prix?" For me,a grand prix is associated with auto racing. Why is this done in Japan? What's wrong with simply called a contest? Can someone please tell me why this is?

Prix is the French word for prize.
