I had this spoiled for me around episode two so I knew who the killer was but didn't want believe it because it was such a dumb obvious choice. The first half itself is not bad it is far from perfect having the overly melodramatic plot the elements along with Satoru going back in time which I feel is an over used plot device or perhaps seen it too many times.

The first half had potential but even than I think were showing as early on

You figuring out who the killer was right away isn't you spoiling it for yourself. You used your brain and narrowed it down until you came up with the right solution.

Erased could have definitely been better written and structured, but I still think it is a good show and worth a watch. This set is more expensive than I would have liked, but I am satisfied with my purchase.

Aniplex puts out great products in terms of a/v quality and packaging. However, Erased left me very underwhelmed. From the moment I picked the killer out,I thought surely it couldn't be him. The suspect was obvious from the beginning.

Erased to me had a decent start but then quickly became one of the most incompetent mystery series I have ever seen. The time travel nonsense is nothing more than plot convenience, the characters such as the MC and the antagonist are so stupid they end taking away from the series instead of adding to it (and there are many ways to properly utilize stupidity to make the series more grounded but this show used none of them and failed miserably). The mystery was solved the moment spoiler[the teacher] was introduced yet it insists on dragging the story pretentiously trying to be something it isn't. Even certain parts like Hinazuki getting abused by her mother are too unrealistic for them to add any real depth and instead tries to force the viewer to care. This series is a waste of time and I personally would never recommend this to those who want good mystery series.

No I literally had someone post the reveal of who the killer was in an thread on episode two on 4chan and than watched the rest of the series hoping it was not true and being disappointed that it took such an obvious and telegraphed route.

So yeah I kind of figured it out on my own and also had someone straight up tell me what the twist was. But this being on 4chan I just assume everyone is lying but it also didn't help that the direction made it patiently obvious and has all but a giant neon sign pointing at the killer saying "it's him" subtle this is not.

This possible mistranslation is still on Crunchyroll. Is it also on this release's subtitles? lol And the dub?

EDIT: Beginning of episode 3, by the way, in case you didn't catch my reply to my Tweet.

I really liked this series a lot. I know some people ended up being disappointed in the mystery side of it, but for me, the mystery of who the killer was, was not a paramount concern. I was more invested in finding out how or if the MC was going to prevent the death of the girl. I really liked both of those characters and their relationship. Then, of course, there was the question of how things were going to play out in the present day. I found the conclusion satisfying and did not predict how some of the details were going to play out.

Even the few posts in this thread so far show there is clearly a divergence of opinion over this title, but I thought it was a very strong offering, especially if, like me, the identity of the killer isn't your number one item of interest.

Oh, damn. Sorry that happened. Confused

How is Airi interesting? She's just hopelessly in love with the main character for some reason despite him being a huge loser ("man, isn't hot how his life is going nowhere!") and who willing to go to crazy length to help him for what is surely the most ridiculous backstory ever (kid you not, spoiler[she want to believe him because her father stole a chocolate bar and no one believed it wasn't him so he killed himself]).

Otherwise I'll mostly echo what was said earlier, the murder mystery is awful, its like it was picked for shock value alone and then heavily hinted trough to make sure that no shock was present, so it ultimately is neither shocking, nor clever. Both the antagonist and main character are pretty dumb, it takes forever for Satoru to realize that if he changes event then things will proceed differently but not necessarily how he want and so he constantly sabotage his best chance at stopping the criminal, once even ignoring what is obviously spoiler[a rape kit] and being routinely outsmarted by a young kid.

It's a shame because when its just about him reliving his childhood it's actually pretty damn good, I haven't read the original work but the adaptation team must have done an outstanding work because everything is framed and presented in a very good way but all the problem seems to originate from the original story.

Ah, Erased. Originally I had this pegged as one of the best shows of 2016, But then it just crashed and burned in a way i have not seen awhile. I could've forgiven the predictable plot twist (seriously, who didn't see that coming?) if they had at least done something interesting with it, but those last three episodes were utter garbage. You really get the impression that the author wrote themselves into a corner, and just had to throw something together as quick as possible. Don't even get me started on the final confrontation Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

The show starts very well, but poor writing and execution bring it down to average by the end. I say it is worth a watch, but nothing more. The mystery is somewhat interesting while you don't know the identity of the killer, but it's so obvious and badly written that a second watching will be tedious and boring. Not something shelf worthy since the 'replayability' is non existent.

I'm really trying not to remember what I saw about this series.. I'm a fan of both Hitchcock style murder mysteries and time travel stories and really want to remain one. I gave up on the show when our lead doesn't do what every Hitchcock lead does, that is try to solve the murder he's being accused of.

Furthermore, as a time traveler, the guy has no idea how time travel stories work, that is "history will find a way". Erased should be like if someone took a chunk of chocolate, called "a suspense thriller" and combined it with a hunk of peanut butter called "science fiction" and sold it as the ultimate candy bar treat but instead they took the chocolate and peanut butter and threw them in thrash in favor of..

Moe. That's all I got. Or maybe those two separate elements required a lot more effort and thought than the author realized so the murder mystery turned out to be a lot less "mystery" than decades of unsolved cases account for and the science fiction became a period piece.

Great first episode. Stop there, imagine your own thing.

I agree. Although I had an inkling who it was, I too didn't want it to be true and the feeling of angst with the destiny of certain characters had me on the edge. A tense and fun ride of a show with very enjoyable characters, especially the Mom. Will I buy it? Hmmm....
