Seriously, why can't English voice actores learn to pronounce the damn names correctly. Immitating a Japanese name si si simple. Even a child can do it. Just copy the sounds. Why is that so difficult for English voice actors. Germans can do it. Hell, even us Romanians can do it.

It's not even something that only happens in games. 90% of English anime voice actors are incapable of pronouncing names.

...Wha.....What the hell kinda pronunciation for the last name was that!

If one thing annoys the hell out of me when it comes to English dubs (when the dub isn't ****), it's when the american voice actor does a ****y pronunciation of a japanese name. I mean come on they have japanese people in their staff for crying out loud! Why can't they teach them how to say the name correctly.

I can't even say how the hell he even says Sakamoto.

it's like back then when they said SaaaKuuRa, Kaaguura, Shiiguurey. I have such a hard time watching the english dub of Card capture sakura that came on the NISA new released dvd because of SaaaKuuuRa.

All I can hope is that the other actors can say his last name right.

I can tolerate his voice, but his pronunciation I just can't.

VA sounds fine, but yeah, what's with that pronunciation? It's not even a complex name (no Tsu for instance). I would think that this wouldn't be an issue any more. Especially for a featured character.

Oh, I don't know. Why can't Japanese Voice Actors learn to pronounce English words correctly? Could it be because it's not their first language? Nah, that couldn't be it because Japanese Seiyuu are perfect in every way. /s

I felt a bit peeved by how he pronounced his surname.
Though, I'll probably try to withstand my judgment on the dubbed voices until I hear Yusuke's English voice.
Because I'm probably too biased towards Sugita. ;;;

Considering the sound director should have corrected him, it's pretty inexcusable to have a pronunciation like that. The recording director should have said "that's not how you pronounce the name, please do the line over using this pronunciation" and recorded the line over again.

You've got the wrong idea. The Director is the one who chose that pronunciation. For example, in Bleach even the VAs disliked how they ended up having to pronounce Grimmjow the way they did. Bottom line, the director chooses. That's why he's the Director.

You miss the point. We should expect better out of both sides.

@ goatnuke

Both sides, but you really don't see many criticizing Japanese voice directors and VA when they say foreign words incorrectly or Engrish at times. Either shrugged or laughed at. Not anger like this.

Honestly I'm not promoting people be angry, I don't think that's productive for anyone. Just that people should expect studios to put in the effort to get things right.

It's funny. When a Japanese VA tries to say an English word, they get a bunch of "well they tried" comments and praise for attempting it, even if their pronunciation was terrible. When an English VA tries to say a Japanese word and even gets it right, they instantly get labeled as "desecrating the Japanese language", get nothing but comments full of hate and scorn, and this somehow makes all English dubs suck collectively.

It's a great double standard, huh? This is why I can't take sub purists seriously.

It's exactly why I can't take these forums seriously. Nobody wants to be fair.
