Not bad, visuals on point. Now all whats left is the pacing the characters and the directing.

Ummmm that's fine? This isn't being made solely for them.

I'm biting.

Have my expectations set low and hope to be surprised.

looks like a mish mash of the first two films and stand alone complex, still too light on story line info to make a call yet

Well I for one can't wait to go see this movie and judge for myself whether it's good or not and from what I've seen so far I have a feeling that I won't be disappointed. Cool

It certainly seems like Oshii's praise of the movie could be a shrewd marketing move on his part. The dude knows what side of his bread the butter is on and I can't fault him for that. As to whether or not the movie is any good is anybody's guess right now. The director's previous movie (Snow White and the Huntsman) doesn't inspire a lot of confidence and the scriptwriters aren't particularly noteworthy. I'll give it a chance but I'll be more surprised if it's actually good rather than mediocre.

Nice to see that their mixing practical effects with CGI ones. They certainly got the art direction down from the bits shown so far.

Mamoru Oshii praising the film doesn't convince me of anything. He doesn't own the series, he didn't create it and to be perfectly honest the films he contributed were among the worst and most watered down in the franchise retaining nothing of the characters' personalities or political and scientific intellect of the manga and SAC.

If I was Shirow Masamune I'd be ashamed of Oshii's deviating vision representing my work. The 1995 film was not the apex of the series.

Why do we care what somebody who mostly directs bad live action films care about something he worked on in the past?

I personally prefer the Oshii films over the manga.

But I believe SAC is the best compromise between the two extremes.

I still hope Oshii does a 3rd GITS movie.

It's nice to live in a world where we can have both.

I think people are making too big a deal of what Oshii said. All Oshii sad was he liked Scarlet Jo as the Major and he thought it had impressive special effects. He said nothing about the plot or the characters or how accurate it was to the source material. Anyway, I'm not sure why there's suddenly all this Oshii bashing going on just because he made some mild nice compliments about the live action movie. SAC is my favorite version of GITS too, but I still respect the Oshii movies for unique vision and artistic value, and SAC would never have come into existence without the Oshii films. Love them or hate them, it was the Oshii movies that made GITS famous around the world in the first place. The manga would have faded into obscurity without Oshii and half the people complaining about him never would have heard of GITS without Oshii.
