Is this the one where Peach dresses up as Luigi and goes full metal jacket on Bowser and his troops?

What a great age in gaming that was.

This is the one that would later adapt from stuff like Super Paper Mario, isn't it?

No, that would be Super Mario-kun, which is still running to this day in Japan & is insanely long (so we'll likely never see it brought over here). This is a made-for-America comic that only ran for a year in Nintendo Power.

Super Mario-kun got brought in France by Soleil Manga and in Spain by Planeta Libros, time will tell...

I've always loved these comics. They were better than they had any right to be. Really well done, and hilarious. I have to get a copy.

I still don't know how it is Miyamoto could retcon the series to make it so that the Koopa Kids were no longer Bowser's kids when virtually everyone in the early 90s clearly thought they were.

France & Spain are completely different markets, so you can't really use them to judge the North American (a.k.a. "North of Mexico") market.

Over here, the only company that could even bring Super Mario-kun over is Viz, since the manga is published by Shogakukan in Japan, & even with an iconic name like Mario & Nintendo, it's still a (presently) 51 volume manga that's still running in Japan & is aimed specifically for little children (it's a "kodomo manga" in Japan). While I won't say "never", I think if Viz wanted to bring over Super Mario-kun it would have done so years ago.

I hope this will be a solid gateway manga for a lot of children.

......If everyone in the 90's thought they were his kids despite no confirmation of such, it pretty much occupies the same space as those who think Mobius is the name of the planet the genesis era Sonic games took place in, despite the fact the name only exists in the cartoons and their comic book adaptations.

It wasn't just in the cartoons but most of the instructional manuals from the early games they appeared in referred to the Koopa Kids as Bowser's children. The Japanese version of Super Smash Bros Melee also calls them his kids. It's not until Bowser Jr was introduced that the Koopa Kids were suddenly changed to just being his minions.

Bummer. I would've liked to see that one more. I grew up on the Sega Genesis, not the Super Nintendo, so Super Mario-kun would've appealed to me more, as it would've referenced Mario games after I got into Nintendo things.

Super Mario, as a universe, has an extremely loose canon, as Miyamoto has never been too concerned with story and thus cares very little about continuity. I think his intention is to have said universe amorphous enough in its rules and established material that a Mario game can be about anything, with no limitations.

I suspect that's why he was so upset at the Super Mario Galaxy team sneaked in Rosalina's backstory: I'll bet he was concerned that this would've limited further possibilities.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Japanese manual for Super Mario Bros. 3 refers to the Koopalings as "The Team of Seven Koopas (Bowsers)." This would tell us nothing about their relationship to Bowser except that they're the same species as he is. The only bit of information given right at the start is that Larry is the youngest and Ludwig is the oldest. They weren't even named in Japanese until they appropriated the names Nintendo of America gave them (and only their first names, oddly).

By the way, the term "Koopa Kid" seems to now refer to the mini-Bowsers used in the Mario Party games.

Didn't Nintendo Power also have Metroid and Star Fox comics? It would be cool to see a release of those.
