A part of my brain wondered how real and doable those moves were. The producers certainly did their homework down to these still images and for that, I'm very grateful.

As some one who's not watching the show, I feel compelled to ask why they're pole dancing in the first place.

A year before the series begins the main character lost big time in the skating world champs. So he did what anyone would do in his situation and got completely smashed at the afterparty.

As for why there was a pole in the middle of what was meant to be a formal banquet, your guess is as good as mine.

Someone on Tumblr theorized Chris has a retractable pole for these situations.

I swear Yuri on Ice is proving the gods are real and they're apologizing for this year.

not bad for a male fanservice.Of course if it were women doing, people would be complaining because that's how equality works...

Everyone is fine with this because they're having fun with fanservice, turning it into a brilliant and memorable scene. The same is done in something like Keijo and no one complains because it's every bit as ridiculous and self-aware.

There's no need to try start an argument. Just join us and have a laugh. It's more fun for everyone that way.

It's actually pretty straightforward.

"I turned left, and my passengers are all yelling at me that I'm going the wrong way! If I'd turned right they wouldn't have a problem; where's the consistency there, liberal!!".

We have a society that has unbalanced depictions of men and women. Inter alia: more sexualised depictions of women, less sexualised depictions of men. Works that sexualise men make the situation more balanced and -- to that extent -- are to be promoted; works that sexualise women make the situation less balanced and -- to that extent -- are not to be encouraged.

["to that extent", because no work has only a single aspect. And it's all complexified because we want a wide variety of depictions of all sorts of people, including both "sexualised" and "non-sexualised" men and women, etc etc etc.]

The background matters. Protons and anti-protons have virtually identical properties, per se, but a kilogram of protons[1] is a perfectly safe thing to want and have and a kilogram of anti-protons... isn't? Not because of the properties of the particles themselves, but because of the context that surrounds them. And in some theoretically-possible world, even, the poles -- ha! -- would be reversed, but... not here, no?

[1] Well, commercially pure protons. 99.9% pure.
