I think the point was that Twitter is pretty vapid and inconsequential, and "who cares" about it.

So just like these comments?
I certainly care about both, simply on the level of gathering trivia. I'm not even that much of a YoI fan (don't hate it either, more or less neutral), but just like with the earnings of Your Name, it's some factual data that you can use for whatever reason. It doesn't need to be very useful, it's still news.

Not according to a certain President-Elect! Laughing

If it weren't for Twitter, professional figure skaters like Johnny Weir wouldn't have become aware of Yuri!! On Ice during it's run, and their enjoyment of the show (and confirmation of its realism) has really added to the fandom. I'm really glad the show is Tweeted so often!

Also worth noting that real life Kazakh figure skater Denis Ten has tweeted about how Medvedeva sorta talked him into watching and he seems rather amused by his resemblance to Otabek

And I think Tomchic420 wouldn't have said a word if the show in question was, dunno, Eupho or Izetta

So I'm gonna be that person but....Yay Haikyu!! I think it's really impressive that Haikyu!! ranked second even though it is in its third season. A lot of animes tend to fade after their first season.

I think Haikyu!! would be even more popular if Sentai Filmworks decided to dub it in English, so that people who aren't into subs would watch it, but hey, that's just my opinion.

Nah, I would've said the same thing had it been about either of the two.

I'm excited Haikyu made it as high as it did! Who would've thought. But honestly the season of Haikyu was really good! Sports anime has really gotten more popular lately and I couldn't be happier!

My vote is a collector's edition with all 3 seasons. I'd pay $150 for that! :0 Still cheap compared to the amount of episodes but I'd like to see a collector's release for the show.

Im not surprised Rolling Eyes overhyped series tend to be the talk of the town when their airing but i wonder how much staying power it'll have once it ends cause as the seasons change anime that was once hype tend to fall into obscurity.

Just fyi Japan loves figure skating so much and one of the most popular sports in Japan. Figure skaters like Yuzuru Hanyu and Mao Asada was and still is very popular among sports fans over there. It is as popular as soccer, baseball and sumo. And if you go to any figure skating competition in Japan it will certainly be fulled withs audiences. Unfortunately in America I assume figure skating has dwindled in popularity and for couple of years Americans did not win any gold for male or female at Grand Prix Finals or the olympics.

So the only reason this show is popular is because real figure skating is popular in japan, is what i got from this fyi and it just proves that people will follow anything if its even the slightest bit familiar. Imo even if its popular as a real sport doesn't change the fact that this is just another mediocre show that people will hype up but once its over it'll go back into its little corner and stay there until a possible season 2 then the cycle will start all over again.

Preach!! I mean, I like the show and all..but overall it's. B- show..it's not anything monumentalor life changing. Sure the animation is very good. But everyone on twitter are so freaky and it's only because of the fandom. I would see legit people analyzing stuff from the show that has no meaning. The fandom on twitter is so horrible. Ugh. This really is a "who cares?" Moment. I think I can predict how it will end, but if anything i've seen better. This is my OPINION but come on now, i'm a bit disappointed how this went along.

Well, I do love the shows and it adhere to what the sports are really all about (professional skaters gives it a thumbs up for showing the competition side of the sport itself) while adding some human drama which is quite realistics and gives props to Sayo Yamamoto who did not relied on any manga to create a story, she's always been creative on shows such as Michiko To Hachin.

I'm not sure to what the Japanese statistic is, but only around 7% of Americans use Twitter. I wouldn't reccomend taking any hashtag or movement on Twitter as any kind of big deal or reflective of actual society. It's always dangerous to surround yourself in a chamber and assume everyone in there are the majority.

Coincidentally, in this case, YoI is doing well in preorders, so there is some reflectiveness here. Of course, I wonder how many of those sales will be from foreign audiences rather than Japan. Not only does Japan buy more anime, they also are more open to sports anime than we are. Sports anime never find traction here.
