Not present are a couple of follow-up OVA episodes, though the second of the two would have been an unlikely inclusion anyway, since it came out the same week that this release hit the market in the States.

Was just going to mention how the Hyper Sexy Edition doesn't make this the complete series. Laughing

C for Story, how did you manage to rate the story, there isn't one.

This one was a 4/10 for me. As a longtime player of the Dragon Quest series, I got several chuckles out of it, especially the episode mentioned in the review where they abuse their "hero" status to rob the NPCs blind, but yeah, it mostly exists just for the fanservice (and promoting the merchandise).

"Story" also generally encompasses "Writing" for grading purposes.

Even more amazing than the show getting a dub or getting a release... that's the order these days... is the show getting a review. "It's short but it's not that good even for what's not there."

I know, I saw the first episode. I have no problem with being entertained by Hobby Japan properties... I like Queen's Blade for the character interactions. No, really... but the point isn't just make them jiggle but to give them character.

Not all of them need to stand out but even with a brief glance at the cast image, no one comes close to Nanael, Melona, Menace or Airi. And that's just visual characteristics, I would expect even less personality with the four minute format.

Ok, putting them in bikinis is part of the premise but no hats, glasses, hair accessories or odd hair styles? Hold on...

OK, went on to 2. They simply streamlined the "accessories" to make their class/name. Darkelf got the pointy ears, the Wizard has a hat, the Paladin has... well, the fighter has... red hair?

They didn't even try there.

As for the second episode itself, I got the joke of RPG quest acceptance, no, I got the point of it but they forgot to make it funny. Also, they seem to have fixated on the reward rather than the idea you either accept the quest... or you accept the quest.

The sad part is that I could easily see this as a full series with names and plots and everything.

Yeah, I think it was called Dragon Pink. Wait, that one was...
Regardless of what it was, it was still funnier.

On the one hand, I'm surprised that something like this got dubbed. On the other hand, it amounts to about two episodes of content, so it probably didn't cost Funimation all that much to dub it.

Though you'll never see exposed nipples,

that's bad, though as implied by a previous post, it's becasue this is not based in the "definitive" eidtion of the series, which added nipples, but on an earlier release. which makes this oenof the few shows where nipples get added after the initial bd release (and I have a difficult time trying to remember other shows that did that)

Reviews right that if the humour doesn't click for you and then there really isn't that much other than the fan service.

Humour was spot on for me though, laughed a lot every episode and greatly enjoyed the heavy doses of fanservice so I adored it. Being 3 mins per episode is perfect length for it as well.

Yeah, I'm glad they did it either way, it was pretty funny.

My wife and I found the jokes amusing enough (de gustibus non est disputandum and all that), but it's too much money for that content, especially without the extra OVAs or the other editions, as everyone has said.

There's the odd case of Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer, but that's a very special case. The show was originally drawn and shot in 4:3 and had the top and bottom matted out for the theatrical release. Some of the home video releases (including some of CPM's US releases) had an "open matte" version where they showed the entire full 4:3 frame-- where it turns out that some animators in one scene drew some nipples that they "knew" would be cut off for the theatrical release.

Every work of fiction needs a writer. Even ones without a story must get their points across and entertain the consumer in some way, and the writer can succeed or fail at that. Man with a Movie Camera has no story, but it is still entertaining to watch due to its fast but steady pace and easy-to-follow flow of shots.
