Damn, they couldn't have the Port Orchard showing 3 weeks later when I would be in WA. It would've coincided on the same week as Sakura-con. Definitely would've made more sense! Do they realize the possibility of an influx of viewers who are in town, 30 mins away who would make the drive down from Seattle to do a viewing?

My own wishful thinking though Razz

I can think of two possible reasons: That may have been when it fits best into Dragonfly's schedule. (And they only have two screens.) Or it may have been when a physical print was available. (Or both.) Dragonfly can, and has, played DVD's/BR's on their screen via a PC - but they're not equipped with an actual (motion picture grade/industry standard) digital projection system. (They're incredibly nice folks, but the Dragonfly is something of a bare bones operation.)

Plus, it's not anything like 30 minutes away... Depending on the route you take, it's more like anything from an hour and a half to two hours from the vicinity of the convention center to Port Orchard.

They pretty regularly have something from Ghibli on offer (they're working their way through the entire catalog, tonight is Howl's last night), so you might be able to see some anime there if you want to during Sakura. Plus they have dang good popcorn and they top it with real butter.

(I live just across Sinclair Inlet from the Dragonfly... My wife and I routinely attend the anime screenings there, and I've toured their projection booth. We actually got to help re-thread the projector and set it up for the next show when we saw Kiki there back in November.)

For the drive time, the post was mainly directed towards my personal drive time as it was more envy and self-center based than it was a legitimate thought, hence why I said 30 mins, but I'm glad to hear your insight on it. (I personally lived in the UP area, off Bridgeport Way, but moved several years ago)

Yeah its fully understandable, but however, my wishful thinking Cool That's pretty awesome you got to tour the place. Are they doing the Mononoke screening as well since you mentioned Ghibli?

Ah, sorry. You said you'd be "in WA" so I presumed you'd be traveling from outside the area to Sakura.

No, they won't be running it on the 5th, but they will be from March 3rd to the 23rd. They haven't said, but it's almost certain (unlike the Fathom showing on the 5th) that it'll be subbed. (That's what they've all been to date.)

Actually that's technically true. My folks still live in the area so I'll be driving from their place. Sorry I wasn't clear enough Smile

I'll definitely have to see what Dragonfly is showing when I'm in town.

Still disappointed I won't be able to see Ocean Waves in theaters though Sad Ft. Lauderdale is too far.
