Too bad it's not moving as fast as an actual Tachikoma. I wanna see this thing tear up the road! Very Happy

The Tachikoma can say app users' names and communicate with them. The robot's personality will vary depending on each individual user's interactions with it.

That would be incredibly adorable and I want it in English (with an itty bitty Tachikoma avatar that bounces around the screen!). Ahh, one can dream.

Unfortunately right now, it's not really that impressive if all they're showcasing has it traveling along a black line on the floor with markers telling it where to stop, and then some guy behind the curtain in the back (pay no attention to him) takes the requested items and hands it to the Tachikoma. Plenty of other machines can already do this and have been doing it for many years. I hope it's not all there is to it. I was expecting to see this thing moving around the store picking up items off the shelves.

It would be totally awesome if they could do it in English, but English name pronunciation would be a nightmare to program compared to Japanese, considering there isn't a fixed syllable system in English like there is in Japanese, and English names can originate from any language, each of them with their own rules. Nintendo of America attempted it with Tetra's Trackers but could only get as far as stuff like "Mrs. B." Then there's that Pooh bear toy from a while ago where they took the shotgun approach, where they prepared a sound clip for a large amount of common names. (If I recall correctly, a parent would insert a CD-ROM into a computer ahead of time, plug Pooh into the computer, and select a name from a provided list. Parents of children with nontraditional names must have been disappointed.)

I wonder how such a robot would look like when interacting with an outraged stay-at-home parent.
