I honestly don't know what the exchange rate is between the dollar and the sol, but all I can think of is that she must've saved and spent so much money, considering how expensive it is to import stuff to South America.
And to think I complained about how expensive it was to import the only thing I ever bought... A FLCL plushie. |

I have a difficult time imagining why anyone would want this title, and really, I find it hard to believe that she has the largest collection in the world of CCS goods. There are so many fans of this property in Japan, let alone the rest of the world. I've seen pictures of Japanese fans storing cel artwork in storage facilities...so you mean to tell me that none of these people have a larger collection? I've always thought that these largest collection awards is some sort of a farce...like someone decides that they have a large collection of goods from whatever series and needs to feel special by getting an award, and the Guinness people simply shrug their shoulders, figure it's a free trip somewhere in the world to verify the data, and simply go along with it.
There's always going to be someone with a bigger or better collection out there. |

So the thing is to be a fan of something like Kaiba or Flipp Flappers who sold like 1,000 disks in Japan and get 20 items or so. Ask Guiness: did someone has a bigger Kaiba collection than me? No, then I want the record.

This news makes me wanna see her collection and know what sort of person she is. Especially if she's not from Japan.
I liked Cardcaptor Sakura too back in its day, The only thing I collected was the manga volumes though. |

Trust me, it is expensive. This will be a very bad comparison, but imagine you had to pay 50 dollars for a manga volume, or 100+ dollars for a BD set. And all these merchandise Sofia has, it makes things even more expensive. But I guess loving something so much makes you forget about those things for the sake of supporting the franchise or being the owner of something so precious. That's why I paid triple the price for my Haruhi LE BDs. And all these people getting salty about someone receiving a recognition, what about just congratulating her, or saying "hey, that's great!" and stop talking about poor countries and what not? Jezz. 
And I don't remember so much shit when another Peruvian (a man, btw) won a Guiness award for his Saint Seiya collection. So, what's happening? Anyway, rant is off, congratulations, Sofia. |

If we're talking about CLAMP series merchandise in general, I could rival her collection. One of almost every tankouban they've released, including omnibuses, in both Japanese and English, for starters (lol Even Tsubasa and Holic). Figures, artbooks, posters, postcard collections, trading cards, cushions, bedsheets, dolls, plushies, clear files, Chipmonk Cheeks magazines, tapestries, and I even joined in that world group project where fans published a book of fanart and such and sent it to them. Kinda weird to think they've seen my work from so long ago, though... lol

That's what I was thinking. A huge portion of stuff like dolls, plush, minifigs, gashapon trinkets, keychains, mugs, tea sets, and such are missing. This is a fairly good-sized collection, but underwhelming if you're familiar with all the merchandise CCS has received over the years. She definitely has a good amount of the flat items like magazines, though. |

Though 1000+ items is undoubtedly an impressive achievement, i would agree with Cutiebunny that this is very likely not the actual largest collection of Cardcaptor Sakura merch (i rather doubt it even comes close to the top 10 Japanese CCS collections).
The accompanying Youtube video also does not appear to show anywhere near 1000 items, and at a glance does not seem to contain any particularly rare or unusual objects. The May 1996 issue of Nakayoshi being her hardest to obtain collectable is not very impressive, to be quite honest. While i don't consider myself especially hardcore as far as CCS collectors go (only own 400 or so items), i at least do own some genuinely rare stuff, like one of the lifesize Sakura Kinomoto figures by Paper Moon, several promotional displays and a decent amount of original production art. |

Hi everyone, thanks for the debate. I was expecting this discussion. My purpose with the record is not be the protagonist of the news (actually, as a journalist, I prefer to tell stories). I wanted to give more visibility to the CCS series and anime in general, in Latinamerica. And I especially want to honor CLAMP for creating CCS. It is my way of saying "Thank you" with the hope that CLAMP will see my message and recognize the effort of someone who, 24 hours or more journey (by plane) and thousands of miles away from Japan, love their work. Not need to mention the piracy problem in Latin America in anime/manga industry. I have a point saying that this record is my way to tell them that I respect their work, getting original products (most of them from beyond 2000). I really do not want to nominate myself as the "fan number 1" nor be compared to a japanese fan with full access to the largest quantity of CCS merchandise. In fact, I would be very proud if someone got a new CCS record. By the way, I have more than 1300-1400 products but not all could be considered, GWR application proccess usually lasts 6 months or more. And you know that a CCS collection is only likely to keep growing. If you have some questions about Peru ("darkest, deepest Peru" as you heard in movies/literature), you can look IDB website and you will confirm that Peru is the fifth largest economy in Latin America. And you are right: some products cost 50%+ more just by shipping.
