First trailer from months ago, I was clearly hyped. Looking at this trailer, Satoshi doesn't have the same feel and I started missing fat Pikachu. So they kept the old logo that was once on Satoshi's hat.

I assume they just wanted to show the English title to Japanese fans? Did they even do that with the 19th movie? Strange since Sun & Moon anime never had that. Also, I am reminded of YGO! The Dark Side of Dimensions movie title having English text over the Japanese text when Arc-V and the upcoming VRAINS don't have them. Just an observation.

I wonder if Ho-Oh's more prominent appearance will lead Ash into exploring a far-away place while adventuring for Gym Badges...

Kind of glad they didn't go with the kiddy designs from Sun and Moon.

It's a good thing they went with the kiddy designs from the original anime instead.

Agreed. It would have looked awful if they hadn't.

So it was no accident that they stuck Ho-oh in the first episode?

Yeah, I think it's the only major appearance of Ho-Oh in the anime, too. Since there's no movie for him and he's in no movie, other than cameos.

It was never an accident that Ho-Oh was in the first episode. It was to drum up hype for Gold and Silver, which released a little under 2 years after the anime debuted, and were presumably revealed to the public some time before that. The reason it's so much more prominent here is simply because we know it's actual design now. Also, Ho-Oh has had one other appearance in the anime, appearing again to Ash after his 2nd(?) loss at the Battle Pyramid during Battle Frontier.

"Film named after anime's 1st episode"

It's not, though.
Hell, it even says in the article that ""Pokémon! Kimi ni Kimeta!" is the title of the Pokémon anime's first episode from 1997." The movie is titled "Gekijouban Pocket Monsters: Kimi ni kimeta", which isn't exactly the same thing... especially when you take into account that "kimi ni kimeta" is a super common phrase spoken more than once per episode on average. So where does this idea even come from?

It probably comes from how the movie's a retelling of the first episode so it makes sense to have the title of the movie be based on the title of the episode, and even if it's not 1:1 the titles are almost the same. It seems pretty nitpicky to say that the movie title isn't based on the first episode's title because of some minor differences like the anime uses "Pokemon" while the movies uses "Pocket Monsters" (which mean the same thing) and the movie adds "Gekijouban" (AKA "The Movie") to its title. And even though "Kimi ni kimeta" or "I Choose You" is popular to say, it's not exactly commonly used in movie titles or anime titles.

Honestly, half of it just seems to be the result of people trying to translate the title into the format the dub movie titles use (ie "Pokemon: subtitle") and ending up with "Pokemon: I Choose You", which is considerably closer to "Pokemon! I Choose You" than "Pocket Monsters the Movie: I Choose You" is.

Yeah, you can sit there and rationalize how Pokemon is just short for Pocket Monsters and how "the movie" is just a generic addition they had to include all you want, but at the end of the day the title of the movie and the title of the episode aren't all that similar, and the bit they have in common is an extremely common phrase associated with the franchise as a whole, rather than something specifically related to this particular episode.
