Nice! This is looking to be the highest-grossing late night anime movie of all time beating the likes of Madoka and Love-Live.

It's very possible, but it's still only a maybe. Love Live was 1.2 Billion by this point so it's only slightly ahead of where it was. It all depends on how it works out in the long run. The ultimate goal is 2.86 billion so even if it does reach that point it's gonna be a while.

Still, I think all those people ranting and raving about how SAO is irrelevant should eat their words right about now. The fact that it even has a chance of beating Love Live is pretty mental.

WOWZA! Pretty impressive. I wonder how long they'll keep this in theaters. It'd be pretty interesting to see all of these late night anime compared under identical conditions. In that case, I feel SAO would be likely to make the most, just given it's wider appeal across various groups, but Rebellion and Love Live probably would do more in this theatrical environment than they did when they came out. It'd be interesting to see how Kizu would have done had it received a wider release, as is it almost felt like they made it deliberately exclusive.

The haters just want something to whine about, I might not like the anime, but I'm glad it did really well, considering the limited screenings and all in the US. I'm happy that the fanbase has gone out to support it. I already know the hatedoom just went out to whine about it afterward.

425 million yen in 3rd weekend

This is totally false! The film earned this much only in 1st weekend. 3rd weekend result was ¥219,097,960 (less than La La Land's 393 million yen, hence the 3rd place) [source].
2nd weekend earning was ¥237,137,500 [source].
