That explain why they just announced the high grade version of the tristan, no master grade announcement which is a bit disappointing. I was hoping they'd make one and at the same time make a 2.0 of the alex.

Characters look like Portland hipsters. But damn do I love me some more UC Gundam OVAs.

As far as I'm concerned, keep churning out these UC OVAs. I don't think there has been one I haven't enjoyed, which is more than I can say of the TV series after 00. Unicorn, The Origin, and Thunderbolt count among my favorites in the franchise in fact, and this one doesn't seem like it will buck that trend. Though if they are doing UC, they ought to do Crossbone at some point.

Thunderbolt premiered tonight and now this!! It's a good day to be a Gundam fan. Are we getting a female Gundam pilot? Other than 0080, that's kind of a rarity. I'm hyped for it. Does anyone know if the source material is any good?

I'm a big fan of this current Gundam trend of having U.C. projects working alongside Alternate Universe versions. It's a nice way to appeal to established fans and new folks looking for something that doesn't require so much investment.

As the designated lead, it is a rarity, however there have been a number of Female characters that have piloted a Gundam unit regularly.
Emma Sheen from Zeta Gundam series, Elle and Roux from ZZ gundam, Allenby from G gundam, that said having a female lead be the Gundam Pilot is a rarity.

Based on what little I've heard she may be piloting the Zaku III and the Gundam seems to be piloted by the antagonist at the moment.
Also, the novel began last October and according to Gundam wiki it only has like five chapters out currently. Which makes me wonder what the length of the series and each episode is gonna be and what the production schedule will look like. Is it going to adapt the chapters currently out and wait for the novel to crank out more chapters before continuing or is it going to go the anime original route?

Bandai would never announce a Master Grade that quickly. At the very least they'll want to see how the HG Tristan performs sale wise before considering an MG version.

A very cool moment to catch up with Thunderbolt indeed. I'm very hyped for Kim's directional debut, I think it's the first korean director of anime? This is going to be fun.

Sayla Mass herself in 0079 pilots the Gundam at least once. Technically Four Murasame pilots one, the Psyco Gundam, and Marida Cruz in Unicorn pilots the Unicorn Gundam Banshee.

Two posts talking about female Gundam pilots and neither mentions Chris? For shame.
Anyway, yeah, I'm gonna have to introduce some cynicism to the discussion. I mean, this is a cool premise for a show, don't get me wrong (reminds me of the Return of Johnny Ridden manga, or the unfortunately-awful Kai Shiden's Report manga) but just how much further does the OYW-fallout shit have to intrude into late UC? Let's jump ahead a few decades and see what the post-Zanscare Universal Century looks like.
And no, AUs that make use of UC history do not count.
I will say that Twilight AXIS is a pretty cool Engrish name, and from the premise alone there's no major red flags like we had with Unicorn. So... fingers crossed.

The general rule of thumb is that it takes about 60-80 minutes of animation for one average-length light novel. So I'd imagine we'll be seeing something like Thunderbolt--small runs of short OVAs spread apart, depending on how long the series ends up being. Remember, this could very well end with the third volume, or even the first.

As far as early chapters go, the MC(s) will be Arlette & Danton as you can see their pics on the main page. The Gundam will be the "villain" and the Zaku III Custom will be the "hero". Regarding the Zaku III....There's a hint that Arlette was involved in the development of the Zaku III Custom. And it will be piloted by Danton in the story, at least in the early chapters.
The story feels more personal and intimate though. We probably shouldn't expect something as grand as Unicorn from this just so that we won't be disappointed.

Eh, a more intimate story is a good thing, especially considering how poorly Unicorn tried to do the big picture stuff with all that Laplace' Box nonsense.

Surprisingly, there have been quite a number of female Gundam pilots in the various Gundam entries, however, they are highly outnumbered by their male counterparts. A few additional pilots that haven't been mentioned are:
Ple Two from Gundam ZZ
Various members of the Shrike Team, an all female unit of mobile suit pilots, from Victory Gundam
Marbet Fingerhat also from Victory Gundam
Rain from G Gundam
Stella Loussier, Cagalli Yula Athha, and Lunamaria Hawke from Gundam Seed
Nena Trinity from Gundam 00
There aren't many females who get their own personal Gundams, and odds are if they do, they're some sort of antagonist. Outside of Christine Mackenzie, there hasn't been a main female Gundam pilot in an animated series, and of course there's never been an animated Gundam series centered around a female protagonist.
As for the announcement of Gundam Twilight Axis, I say cool, glad to see more UC Gundam. With any hope, this series will be a sign that Sunrise is interested in producing more mid-to-late UC Gundam series.
