A couple of things to clarify --

1) this is NOT the first public screening of this film in the US! It was screened well over a decade ago in the LA area by ASIFA I think... that was when the US animation industry still made hand-drawn feature animation so the screening was probably closer to 2002.
2) the film was available to see on YouTube for a while. I saw a little bit of it. It was less about blowing the Americans to bits or the usual wartime propaganda you could expect. It was really a bunch of cute animals and was way, way more metamorphical than anything (if I remember correctly). It was something more like a Looney Tunes animated short with ants fighting off bigger bugs or things like that. I wasn't really that impressed by it. Maybe something to watch once but not something I'd pay to own. It was in a word, boring.
3) the quality level of the production is about what you would expect from early 1930s animation. It's nowhere near as polished as Disney got by the end of the 1930s OR what the usual would be for MGM, Disney or Warner Bros by the mid-1940s. Today's theatrical anime standards are generally a lot better. At least the general level of what gets shown out of Japan.
