This is interesting - it's always been to my understanding that the movie's plot has very little to do with the book, so this should be a mostly new story for us.

I didn't even know it was based on anything at all until now.

I don't think anyone could have seen this coming.

Hopefully someone will finally release a Blu-Ray for the movie here soon as well. Funimation? Discotek?

This is cool, but we desperately need a Blu-ray release for the movie itself. Manga Ent's long OOP DVD is garbage anyway.

I remember vaguely hearing that Kon's movie was based on a novel but I never expected this to get licensed oh well another thing to look forward to.

It would be nice if Funimation or Discotek Media release the original movie on Blu-Ray already.

It has a release in the UK and Australia.

That's one to look out for, and I had no idea it'd been based on a book.
It'll be interesting to see how they differ. A few years ago I read the original novel of "Paprika" by Yasutaka Tsutsui, and while there are differences it really showed how much Kon had brought to the story in his film.

I believe he copied elements from both novels, the second one is about the pop star I think?

I was under the impression that Seven Seas believed that novels didn't sell in the US.
