Goes to show you that the Otakon staff knows how to make a damn good con! Now if only the people in Florida can get it together like that! Here's two bitchin' ideas I'd like to put forth.

1.) Kill Sundays entirely unless the con is really that big. Sundays at cons (at least here in Florida) are the epitome of dead. Take the Sunday panels an spread them amidst Friday and Saturday.

2.) Those little promo bags that they hand out for con attendees should have deodorant in them...so those of us who practice regular hygiene can be spared the agony of smelly shut-ins in crammed panel rooms. Seriously, Bandai or Viz or whoever....slap Naruto or Spike Spiegel on some deodorant and put it in the bag. It would be the best thing to happen to anime cons.

I can't say that I agree with your first suggestion, cause Sundays still do have a decent number of stuff happen with them... but...

Oh hell yes. Thank you for that suggestion. Probably one of the better ones I've heard in a while (though I think I've heard it before.)

And wow. A hotel already sold out? That's pretty hardcore, I must say.

But if you slap too many characters on the deodorants, they become collector's items, which defeats the purpose of why they're there in the first place.

I can't imagine how this convention can grow any more. If their attendance goes up like it has wanted to go, the only place they could go is the Mall of America.

Noooooooo

There is NOT enough time on Friday and Saturday to add even more programming. As it is, those days (esp Sat) are PACKED. If anything, the con should expand to four days, not cram into three.

Ha, yeah. The con had the definite "otaku smell" to it. The gamer's room smelled like a gerbil cage. But you know, it was really warm out, and many people were cosplaying in heavy costumes, so I can sort of understand. But I carried deodorant with me so that when it wore off from the morning, I wouldn't contribute to the problem.

Very good point about the deodorant. =P

I've not heard of holding massive conventions in malls. That sounds utterly disasterous. Otaku's raiding a public outlet of goods and stuff, with their own goods... for 3 days? That doesn't sound very good at all.

Besides, I think Otakon is well based on the east coast, and holds it's reputation there. If it were to move somewhere like... Minnesota, it would certainly not really be Otakon anymore. If they do indeed decide to move out to somewhere larger, the only place of moderate convenience is that one even larger convention center in D.C.

Everyone was carrying their bags from last year, but they were no where to be found as far as i'm concerned. Ironic. =/

God no.

My biggest complaint about Otakon 2005 was the fact that so much programming was crammed into Saturday, with Friday and Sunday being too quiet.

Sunday was dead, but that's because there was nothing interesting programmed for Sunday.

Yeah seriously, <3 Sunday. Otakon could have benefited from spreading out the panels and other programs.
I love the deoderant idea. At the very least they should have handed it out at the dance area. I tried to go this year but the combination of wayyy too many people jammed into one area was horrible. And the fact that it was an otaku crowd made the smell unbearable. I once went to a concert after it had rained on the crowd and despite the mud, it smelled better than the Otakon rave.
It really wouldn't be too tough to get a company to sponser a deoderant give-away. It would probably be best not to put any anime characters on them because then certain people would think they were collector items and squirrel them away to be kept in mint condition. And they are probably the ones who need it most. One of my most bizzare memories from high school was a deoderant give away. My hs does have a reputation for being a geek school (see the movie Hackers) but I wasn't aware that we were known for or had a BO problem.
