Normally, when shows like this get made, it's because they have some sort of light novel to cross-promote. Sure, they're basically the same show over and over and over again, but they at least serve a purpose within the industry, and when they inevitably fail to sell a significant amount of Blurays or figurines, at least there's some other metric you can point to in order to gauge their success.

However, whenever I see anime original iterations of this story, I can't help but wonder what the anime industry is thinking. I have no idea whether this particular show will be good or not, but more shows fail than succeed these days, and the industry is notoriously bad at predicting which shows will be successful. Isn't there someone employed by PINE JAM whose job it is to say, "wait a minute, ___ out of the last ____ shows in this genre have been flops, are you sure you want to make another one?"

And PINE JAM's answer to that person would be "but sakurasou author x tawawa on monday's artist!"

It's like everyone in the anime industry screams:

spoiler[Barakamon episode 3 lol]

But we get EXACTLY that as the result. I know high school never changes (pun intended) but seriously, who is even paying for this kind of anime to be produced and distributed?

Some people just can't let go of the past. Rolling Eyes

Last season's Seiren was created Amagami's author/artist, but despite being explicitly marketed to Amagami fans, and in many ways being a better version of Amagami, it failed to hit its mark.

There's no shortage of unsuccessful shows created by people with pre-existing fanbases. I'm not saying that the company should be worried that the show won't be good, I'm saying they should be worried that no one will buy it.

It's rare to see an anime where the story begins with its main characters in their senior year.

Still not sure if I'm gonna watch this though.

What do you expect? From what I understand, most companies in Japan are targeting the high school demagraphic.

I'm not trying to justify this idea, I've just grown so numb to high school anime and can't get annoyed of them.

I wonder whether it's not actually Japanese high school students watching these shows in the middle of the night, but rather people who are nostalgic about Japanese high school.
