If it were funimation and they released the whole series on a single bluray set for like $45-50, I'd consider it. At Aniplex prices though... it better be something on the level of like Fate/Zero which Asterisk is clearly not.

Aniplex does like raising the bar for anime, although this is what's definitely is called a economic bubble for raising the price to high.

especially when some people have resorted to just simply watch it for free. while i can get the price tags for god eater , fate/zero and aldnoah zero since they were big hits in japan, for series like these are quite the big miss. better to wait until the price goes lower.

you really cant be surprised by that. its been the MO for a lot of anime series that are based from light novels. especially if its from the harem genre. the only exceptions were shakugan no shana, zero no tsukaima & highschool dxd. every other LN adaptation unfortunately got the advertisement syndrome where you have to read the books to continue with the storyline. its been definitely one of my pet peevs and is why i tend to be cautious when it comes to those series.

Exactly.
Asterisk is no different from other LNs in that regard- there's some pretty interesting revelations in the later volumes not covered by the anime.
For example there's the reveal that
spoiler[-Haruka is merely Ayato's half-sister, and her biological father is Madiath Mesa. Their mom used her IMF wish to get a full identity change, including plastic surgery, new ID documentation and the complete erasure of her previous life, to escape Madiath.
-Claudia's only held on to her Ogre-Lux for so long because Ayato was the only person in her nightmares that always rescued her.
-Ernest Fairclough's chivalrous personality is a sham. His true personality is a ruthless battle junkie, which he suppresses to continue wielding his Ogre-Lux (it will only allow itself to be carried by a chivalrous person).]

My IQ is 134 and I bought the first volume and plan to collect the rest of Asterisk War. What can I say, I have a well paying job that I love and I like the simple pleasures of the series. I like the books better than the show, but it's all very relaxing and fun for me. I really enjoy the CDs that come with the set and I think the packaging is lovely.

I also bought the deluxe edition of Infinite Stratos, which is frankly a dumber show IMO but I also enjoy it for what it is.

Also, I started buying anime back in the earliest days when you'd happily pay $35 for one episode of Dangaio on VHS and you were just so damned stoked that such a thing existed. A part of me has always viewed anime as a luxury item and totally worth it. Let me bore you further with stories of having my parents drive me an hour and half just to watch non-subtitled anime's as part of the University of Minnesota's anime club.
