Nice to see this show come back. I see they are sticking with an alchemist as the enemy of the season. This will be the first season I see as it airs so that will be interesting.

I am digging for Saint-Germain. We need more hot girls in suits or prince-like outfits. The other two though make S4 look like it is taking a page from Youjo Senki. Hype for this new season.

EDIT: Minako Kotobuki is a great bonus too. Now we have two K-On! VAs for this new Symphogear.

I am ready for S4.

Also hoping they take advantage of having announced 2 seasons (4 and 5) and tie them together in a larger overall story. But regardless I'm liking the look for the villains and nothing wrong with sticking to the alchemy angle.

We've joked about having a season with male rivals but none of us expected to get it like this, lol.

Kind of mind-blowing we got a male seiyuu voicing a big-boobed lady. Last time that happened was that anime based on a Capcom video game. Laughing

Yeah, I wonder about Germain because the real person was a guy. However, if this character isn't a girl, I don't think it would make much sense to have an entire line in the character description pointing out that she dresses up as a guy.

Symphogear has always been a strange series, and that is likely a significant part of the appeal, it is oddly poetic that you have trans girls whose power comes from alchemy which if anyone minimal understanding that is the long short of what makes the physical change in a trans individual is playing with chemical biology.

It will be curious in what type of sites they will go over the top with, Suplexing a space shuttle will be something crazy to top.

Studio: OK, we need to have some male charatcers for the next season.
Writers: Got you covered. 2 male alchemists to fight against.
Studio: That's perfect...
Writers: That were turned into women by a female alchemist that dresses like a man.
Studio: GODDAMN IT!!

Symphogear fixes the problems I have with most predominantly-female casts by not reducing its men to incompetent stereotypes and/or cartoonish evil (well, except for Ver). I'm cool with it keeping to a small number of male characters as long as the ones they have keep getting their chances to show off.

You're just assuming they don't actually consider themselves men. They could just need a perfect 'girl' body to use their power. I mean it does seem like relics only sync to girls, and the previous alchemists iirc had a song thing too.

I can only think of 3 main characters that are guys. Ver, the commander, and Tsubasa's [not really an] assistant. One is cartoonishly evil, and another is super macho stereotype so 2/3. I mean I don't really care about the guys since this is basically for fan service and singing, but I think it does fall into exactly that.

So... hmm.

This could go a lot of different directions, many of them very, very badly.

But for now at least maybe I can dream and hope that we're get an anime with two decent trans women characters. Probably won't be the case, but hey, you never know right?

This is Symphogear, we technically have an open lesbian lead yet it is clearly yuri bait for doujin creators to write about.

The show has always been an over the top "cartoon" so creating some sort of "accurate" depiction of ANY lifestyle is highly unlikely, be it school girl, military commander, or any other real life counterpart.

Don't count on it. If I read this right, those two didn't choose to be transformed. Or at the very least them changing into women wasn't the main goal. I think they just need a female body to use relics or something. They might very well still consider themselves men.
