Girls' Last Tour is super interesting! An anime adaptation was to be expected (yet I was surprised). Laughing

So that's why they licensed the manga. This should be cool.

I can not be snarky about Girl's Last Tour as even the title is fantastic. Five star premise and since it's an anime, it doesn't have to be set in a desert "that was once... civilization." Yup, nothing wrong here... but....

One way to make it better, change the Kettenkrad into a scooter and the two girls into one robot. Oh, and don't make it that there's no people at all, make it that they're quietly dying off, fading off in the Earth's final sunset so the robot and we the audience experience it all dispassionately like we're nostalgic for something lost but not really sure it was ever there in the first place. You know, sad but still somehow celebratory. Add in a café just to make it cozy, the one constant in a rapidly emptying world.

Just don't call it a tour, call it a Shopping Trip, a normal activity in a world that's anything but that. Kadokawa doesn't even have to license it, they... already own it... Probably just a coincidence.

Right, why not make that into a series? Oh well, if we can't get the real thing, a cheap knock off is better than nothing.

A place further than the Universe centers on high school girls going to the South Pole.

That better turn into HP Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness" otherwise that's a waste of a title. Wait, School Live was a thing that happened so maybe...

Hey, the Girls Last Tour is totally not a knock-off of Yokohama Shopping Trip, just for you know. It's the one way psychological trip on the complex surreal ruins that rival the Blame megastructure with no meaning of happiness nearby.

Girls' last tour: the moe Blame!?

I suppose if the kettenrad could talk, people would bring up Kino's Journey.

ETA: WANNFH beat me to it.

Kadokawa revealed two trailers and announced 4 new titles (2 adaptations, 2 new anime) from this year's anime expo. Impressive.

I'll look forward to Girl's Last Tour for sure.
Been reading the manga and fairly enjoyable.

Whatever its shortcomings, I think it is unfair to call it a knock off. "Touring the dust of this planet" is a well established subgenre. The list of possible models is very long indeed. A non-anime favourite of mine is "Slow Music" by James Tiptree, Jr.

Also Girls' Last Tour doesn't seem to go for that bittersweet "long warm final sunset" feel of that other manga.

I wonder if they consulted any real life South Pole experts to make it as realistic as possible.
