Just what I have been waiting for. The sonic anime that makes some sonic games look like masterpieces in terms of story and character development.

I recall many people in the Sonic Community expressing a sheer dislike towards Sonic X; some of them saying that it has to do with Chris. Of course, 4Kids's colossal marring of the English version just added to the negative reception.

Discotek recently licensed and released three seasons of the Sonic X English dub on DVD in 2016. Its release does not include a Japanese subtitled version.
A lot of people would of brought the original uncut version. Sonic X isn't very good, but it does have its moments. The 4Kids version on the other hand is butchered to death with cut content and weird editing.

Somebody higher up the Sonic food chain; either TMS or SEGA, hard to know which; won't allow Discotek to put it out subtitled on DVD. Insane.

At least there's Hulu. I watched some subbed Sonic X last week. it's better to have it on in the background so you can hear that glorious cast but not have to put up with the cheap production. For my money, X's biggest sin is cheaping out on the design of Space Colony ARK. The ARK levels in Sonic Adventure 2 are beautiful and drenched in personality. Meteor Herd, Mad Space, Crazy Gadget, and Final Chase are all sprawling; Sonic X's equivalents are essentially boring empty factories. Don't even get me started on how this also botches the cutscenes/dramatic moments.

Which is the general consensus with this series again? I got to watch the uncensored version and found it good, but then again I don´t know what was cut and what not. I don´t think the censored version lost the point of how the series was supposed to be written.

It also didn't help when Sega hired 4Kids & that same voice cast for many of the video games afterwards.

The 4Kids dub did have it's edits but it didn't get real bad until season 2 with the Metarex episodes where they changed a couple of things.

Until someone at Discotek releases the uncut version of this show. Otherwise I'm not watching 4Kids garbage again and I refuse to watch any censored 4kids version of an Anime. Yu-Gi-Oh! already suffers from massive edits and no uncut DVD release of that, thankfully there are uncut episodes on Crunchyroll.

There are many examples; Shadow has a scene where a character called Molly dies, in the original there is no music, and she is killed by her ship being blown up. 4kids adds this generic battle music and she just flies off saying how she will keep on fighting. Later on Shadow visits her grave, in the 4kids edit he is just looking out to sea. There was a scene similar to the end of the Sonic OVA, I forget what happens but the whole part was cut from 4Kids version.

I wouldn't call myself part of the 'Sonic Community' but as someone who liked Adventure 2 I found it to be an enjoyable adaption, with additional stuff from other sources like Chaotix.

Really though, it should be obvious enough to never judge a show by its dub. An edited 4kids dub no less. It's always completely misrepresentative of the show.

They might attract more fans if they could have the few uncut English dubs that were released on DVD and a subbed version with a good translation. Licensing issues be darned!

Sonic X was okay... Definitely going into the human world squandered all potential the series ever had.
