Wing I can sort of take or leave. I would watch it if it aired on TV again (hint hint, Toonami), but it's not one of the strong Gundam entries and I'd only be watching for nostalgia.
G Gundam I'm quite fond of. I wonder if they're going to redub it or leave the Blue Water dub, which is surprisingly popular (baffles me). It's such a fun show and actually has one of the few decent Gundam romances in Domon and Rain. I'll be tempted to pick this one up. |

It's because its gloriously cheesy. That's why I like it anyway. Sub's for the serious version of the story while the dub's for the cheese factor. |

I apologize if this is off topic but if any one can answer I'd be extremely grateful. This past year it's felt like there have been a million different Gundam series getting released on bluray and it's overwhelmingly confusing to me as I haven't a clue about the franchise. Are all the series connected or all their separate stories? Where would someone even start if t hey wanted to try out this series? Dubbed series are preferred as Sci-fi/space/robots isn't a genre/theme I tend to like very often with some exceptions and the lack of dub on top of that would probably make it unwatchable for me but would like to as least try some of this franchise is there are any friendly starting points for someone like me, thank you very much!

There are multiple guides to the Gundam franchise online, a search engine away. But if you want the basics, the original Gundam timeline is the "Universal Century" from the original 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam TV series and its sequels and spinoffs. All UC titles (ostensibly) connect at various points on that timeline. But alternate universe Gundam shows tend to have their own timelines, sometimes with their own sequels, sometimes they stand alone, and they don't connect with other AU timelines or UC (generally). Gundam Wing doesn't connect to Zeta Gundam, G Gundam doesn't connect to Gundam 00, and so on. But Endless Waltz is a sequel to Gundam Wing and Gundam 0080 is a side story of the original Gundam TV series. It can be somewhat daunting at first glance, but it's mostly orderly. If you check the "timeline" being used in the synopsis of the show (AC for Wing, AW for Gundam X, etc), you should be able to figure out which universe you're in with each title. |

G Gundam's dub is popular because of Mark Gatha. Not only was he an incredible voice for Domon, but he was completely outstanding as Mega Man X for Command Mission and X8. It's a shame he quit voice acting so long ago because we needed him to be X again for Marvel vs Capcom Infinite (the new voice for X is okay, but he's not that great either). The game won't have Japanese voices like MvC3 did either, so Takahiro Sakurai will not be an alternative. |

I could get so much space back on my shelf with those two g Gundam sets. Those twelve dvds do take up a lot of space.

Stopped reading there. His voice cracked all the time. Tomokazu Seki blows him away. Honestly, nobody in the dub could compete with the Japanese cast whatsoever (except the narrator guy). But that's fine, I'll just continue watching that version. It just deserves a better English one. |

I've been looking forward to rewatching Gundam Wing and reevaluating it for a long time, so I'm glad it's not gonna be too much longer now.
And I'm also happy to see G Gundam is only so far away, it's great it'll be more easily available again. Putting aside details like shows missing a Blu-ray release because there isn't one in Japan yet (Gundam X), we are evvvver so close to having everything available...I suppose the caveat here will be having Seed/Seed Destiny HD remaster instead of the originals. But what else is missing by now? Just Gundam Age? SD Gundam(s)? |

G-Saviour, Sangokuden, Force, SD Gundam, 00 TV BD + Special Editions, Gaiden and Musha specials unless you were specifically referring to mainline shows in which case, just AGE and Sangokuden. |

The good news, as it were, is that MOST Gundam shows are pretty much designed taking your situation into account: they're made to be understandable for new viewers. The original series consists of Mobile Suit Gundam/Zeta Gundam/ZZ Gundam/Char's Counterattack (movie). Those are all connected. Nearly everything after that more or less is designed to be viewable even if you haven't seen anything before, even when they're on the original UC Timeline those shows took place in. The "Alternate Universe" (AU) series are mostly standalone, like Wing and G Gundam here, which also simplifies things. So starting with "This one looks cool" is just about as good a way as getting into it as anything else. I kinda wonder if maybe I should take a crack at writing a viewing guide... |
