I hope the first stretch goal is reaching $300,000 to dub season 2.

Thy didn't expect the goal to be reached this fast, seeing how they've only just finished their second "fund me" video.

The second season dub as a stretch goal is tricky as I believe it'd be more efficient financially to keep them separate... for the sake of using preorders as source of capital... even if it should be easier to dub them all at once rather than over a period of years.

Years...

Well, wouldn't be the first show I have where only the first season gets dubbed.

The first stretch goal is $10,000 to do a 5.1 dub track. I am rooting for all the Aria anime to be dubbed, but to me Right Stuf is being way too cautious. Trying to go over $250,000 would be risky, but I thought the first stretch goal was going to reach $150,000.

I think i have to agree with Animegomaniac on future season dubs being separate ...to give time for capital generation ....

Personally I am wondering if this is going to be another burn like Escaflowne where preorders for the title after the Kickstarter ended up being cheaper than getting it through the Kickstarter.

You are almost always going to get it cheaper outside of the Kickstarter. Kickstarter is not a way of getting cheap stuff. It's a way of donating to projects you care about. Of course to encourage donations rewards are offered.

We need a new stretch goal that one didn't even last a day.

I'm pretty sure Shawne is reading this and if so, would you mind doing a post mortem on the Kickstarter when it's finished? Most Kickstarters work as a parabola, with a huge burst of funding within the first and last three days, and a dead zone between them. While it's still early in the campaign, Aria appears to have remarkably solid holds throughout this first week. If you keep this pace, what do you attribute that to? Do you think launching the show on Crunchyroll really brought in new eyeballs? I haven't paid really close attention to your backer rewards, so are you guys adding higher priced tiers?

For anyone not aware of what I'm speaking about. Here are some of the other home video anime Kickstarters:

Here's Aria:

@Primus
This is Ann/Pied Piper from the Skip Beat and Time of EVE campaigns and I'm assisting Nozomi with Aria. Thank you for posting these graphs!

I'm not speaking for Shawne -- these comments are from my own experiences.

It seems to be a Law of Nature that pledges drop off during weeks 2-3, but we will see if Aria can break the rules (after all, we are dealing with planet Aqua^^).

Here's my take on the strong start so far... One of the biggest challenges is to let people know about the campaign -- you hope and pray for word of mouth, but the campaign always needs some visibility to ignite. For Skip Beat, I worked hard to get coverage on ANN (yeah!) and leaned on Crunchyroll and Rightstuf (yeah!) to do periodic shoutouts for the campaign. Shawne is in a great position because he's built his own audience for Rightstuf and Nozomi and so he can reach out to fans directly.

But Funimation had the same advantage w/ Esclaflowne, and they had a steeper dropoff in week 1.

So that makes me think it might have something to do with Aria as a title. I think this campaign is the first exposure to Aria for a lot of people, and they need some time to check out the title (Crunchyroll is key). That factor might contribute to sustained momentum.

Absolutely, although hard to say how many exactly. I am hoping that the CR streaming will keep on boosting the campaign as more people check out the show and fall in love.

We got a nice boost when a backer took one the $5K reward to have a voice acting part, and several of the other $1000+ rewards have been claimed. That definitely helps build momentum.

And as I'm writing this, I see that we've already exceeded the $120K stretch goal #1 for 5.1 dub audio mix!!

Time to CELEBRATE!!!!

They already plan on making the chipboard box large enough to hold future releases, so they're already reaching pretty far...

I wouldn't hold your breath -- that series (which I did watch a downloaded version of, and later bought, because random forgotten eroge adaptations are right up my alley) doesn't have nearly as much critical acclaim, fandom respect, or general notoriety as the Aria franchise does. Blessing of the Campanella seems more like a title that Nozomi merely picked up off the Funimation "licensed for streaming but not home video" scrap heap, rather than something like Aria or Emma or Maria Watches Over Us that they were more "invested" in.

Emma seems like a logical next choice if all the Aria series get completely dubbed, given its setting. We can only hope that its fandom is broad and/or deep-pocketed enough to make a future Kickstarter successful. Marimite, otoh, can and maybe should stay sub-only. As we saw with Scientific Railgun, there's no English rendering of "Onee-sama" that isn't going to incense some faction or another.

The next logical step would be further Sato dubs like Sketchbook or Tamayura. But they really should try a "license and dub" Kickstarter next. Speaking of lost eroge adaptions, I'm a big fan of Bridge to the Starry Skies which is a fun romantic comedy. Or there's always Seitokai Yakuindomo.

Why is there always Seitokai Yakuindomo? Most notable show no one's touching.

As for Stretch Goals, whatever they think of as a possible #2, I have a feeling the total will have already passed it. "Ok, here's a crazy thought. 10000 for a 5.1 audio...We've already passed it, haven't we? Ok, wait a minute..." The latest update seems almost embarrassed by the positive response, opting to start work on scripts rather than push for further funds with additional stretch goals.

The easiest or most obvious one would be "name casting" but unlike Skip Beat, whoever you get may have to come back for the following seasons.
