Not all but there is a good handful of otakus that have poor hygiene in the States, so, Japan can`t be too far off either.

A hose, bar of soap, and a scrub brush would be a better option.

What the hell is "deodorant water"? Do you drink it? Is it some kind of cologne?

I used to work at a co-ed summer camp for many years, around the time Axe-brand spray deodorant really started to take off. Prior to every camp-wide dance, a fair number of teenage boys would decide that rather than showering, they could just put on a bunch of Axe.

Well, long story short, rather than smelling like B.O., they now smelled like Axe body spray mixed with B.O.. The experience taught me that if someone already smells bad prior to arriving at a social event, they aren't going to magically smell fresh as a rose just by putting on deodorant... it's designed to prevent body odor, not to mask it.

How shitting hard is it to practice proper personal hygiene for Christ's sake? When I smell somebody who smells like a horse's ass I have no problem telling them they stink (literally). If you want to be a slob do it at home where nobody can get ill from your smell!! Rolling Eyes

Sadly this is a big problem not just here but in many geeky circles, where a number of people seem to have absolutely no concept of personal hygiene.
I know people who run science fiction conventions and find it both incredibly sad and worrying that they need to tell grown-up attendees that they should bathe at least once a day - and despite that attendees who are old enough to know better STILL reek!

Well hopefully this incident will shame some people into caring about their personal hygiene if even their favorite idols are taking note of it.

I've often wondered why cons don't just slip a bar of soap into each bag. It would probably be the most useful con swag I've received in a long time.

Sad that this had to be done at this event, but having attended many cons around the US, there is BO everywhere...and sadly enough, even on Day 0 of the con.

Instead of metal detectors cons should have hygiene detectors. if you don't pass you don't get in.

Common sense isn't as common as you think. Common sense is like owning gold. Everyone should have it but they don't.
