Given the undertones of irregular, this is extra gross

Cool.
They could also use Strike Witches, Girls und Panzer and Kantai Collection. Given her popularity Shimakaze would be a great poster girl in recruitment for Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.

Recruit people by using someone who isn't even loyal to Japan or its military in his own series? Oh the irony.

Can you not see why using Imperial Japan battleships to promote modern military enrollment might be a super bad look?

Wouldn't Yoji Itami from Gate be a better character choice?

To be honest, I highly doubt the target audiences (some extremes of the waifu-worshipping "otaku" crowd) are delicate enough to understand that, plus, what they really should be worrying is the quality of the applicants that were drawn by such campaign, are they really fit and qualify enough to be part of the self-defense force?

I know the lack of recruitments for JDSF is getting increasingly serious, but no way they can be this desperate

Shimakaze was sunk near the Philippines in November 1944. A similar fate befell almost all Japanese WWII warships. Aside from references to a rather unfortunate period in Japanese history, being sunk is battle is not something you want to emphasize to potential naval recruits.

Your argument slightly puzzled me. But then I recalled some details from the story that made me understand what you meant.

But then again, it could also be seen that loyalty isn't exactly what they're actually looking for. It might be basically kinda like: "If you can do something, help us out. We'll somehow provide some benefit for you too."

Tatsuya's image as an agent of the JSDF, that actually goes against various foreign threats in the novels, regardless of his reasons, really is strong though. I guess the hype from the recent movie just caught on.

Hell in the movie, they were attacking a japanese science facility and Tatsuya shot down more than a handful of Japanese soldiers himself.

If anything he works with them, because they help him out a lot. Specifically the unit he belongs to the 101, where he's friends with the officers in the unit and it makes things easier to take out threats to his sister, himself, and anyone else he cares about.

Though if the need came to be, he would abandon the JSDF with zero hesitation and if they went after him, he would obliterate them if necessary.

Hmm.. though there was not much but how about they target non(less)-waifu-worshipping otaku with something military related anime stuff.. although not much but the only recent special forces thingy I thought of like anime (scene) action was that of Ajin( the SAT and the Anti-Ajin Force) however I dont know how they'd do it since the special forces in Ajin where fighting immortal enemies but I do like the idea where in the Anti-As where able to keep up fighting against something absurd and that's some cool tactical mindset

We are talking about a anime/ game wright?
They win the spoiler[Battle of Midway] in the anime Shocked

Im crazy about military history, even looking for military reports of WW2 battles when available. And i know how historic absurd/incorrect these animes are

But most potential recruits don't care much about the true history.
What we are talking about is Moe military girls used in a Military recruitment effort. And in this, real ships/plains and history are not been used.

JSDF Recruitment Poster already used "High School Fleet" girls, and their ship Harekaze is a fictional Kagerou-class Destroyer. 18 of 19 Kagerou-class ships were lost in WW2.

Maybe they shouldn't be used.

Maybe using entertainment for military recruitment is actually, like, crazy bad and messed up.

No, I'm talking about what really happened to the ships. When we first got notice of Kancolle I recognized some of the ship names. It only took a few minutes with Google to confirm that they all have been dead and on the bottom of the sea for 70 plus years. As a result I was never able to get into the anime. It is rather hard to think of rusted, barnacle covered hulks as cute girls.
