I'll bite. I don't think moral complexity has ever been Ohba's intention. In all his talks about Death Note, he seemed pretty clear-cut about who was good/evil and that whatever deeper symbolism fans derived from ostensibly a shounen manga was an accidental resulting of world/character building.

Just by nature of having more supernatural action, I'm not expecting this to have anything close to subtlety compared to Death Note.

The protagonist's name is Mirai, as in the Japanese word for "future."

Miura was one of the editor characters in Bakuman, also made by Ohba and Obata.
