Funi and Crunchy's partnership has put me at ease this past year. I just hope Sony realizes they don't need to meddle.[/u]

This is all old news, but at least it seems Sony is going to keep Crunchymation intact.

It very convenient for Sony to continue Crunchyroll partnership since they able to get more shows per season and Funimation will be a to dub, distribute all Crunchyroll show which brings more revenue to their pockets. Plus they going to have one less Service to compete with since Crunchyroll is all about sub while Funimation is all about Dub.

And so by "closed" they mean that it's official? legit?

I just hope that with this, they get access to the stuff in Sony's catalog or get the financial backing to do major releases like Evangelion TV or One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island.

Yes. In business, when a deal is "closed" it means that all required steps to complete the deal have been agreed upon, and that usually includes whatever legal steps must be taken.

Once this deal is closed, Funimation will officially have a majority of its shares owned by Sony, if I understand the deal correctly. Funimation will effectively be a part of Sony, which could be really good or really bad, depending on how things turn out. We'll just have to wait and see.

Dat wall of salty text though. Dubs aren't that bad. As with everything in life, some are better than others, but there are plenty of good ones. Old hentai dubs are the best though Laughing

You killed me that last sentence LOL. Enjoy the dubs man.

Man, I really want to agree with you but it's only a matter of time before Crunchymation is over. Crunchyroll already is trying to move to other markets (ESP dubs) that make more sense for Funi to own. Add to that the fact that Crunchy can cancel their contract and Sony doesn't really get anything from the partnership. Btw, Funi is facilitating and distributing the dubs. They're not getting the full money from BD/DVD sales just a portion.
How can you say Sony gets nothing from the deal? Why can CR just end the contract? Also how do you know they don't get a favorable share from BD/DVD sales? I highly doubt you know the specifics so please don't represent it as fact. I mean I think Funiroll is as dead as the next guy but that's purely based off of irrational fear.

The sad part is that I've seen this at Anime Expo (and it really makes young fans feel like "well F*** this. I can do some many other fun things too. I don't need to deal with this). Anime is a medium. Just let people enjoy it

I am so happy I never ran into this at AX this year since I was working and barely interacting with people outside of the digimon panel. I hate elitism so much

I would bet FUNimation will remain largely or even exactly the same. That's because I'm certain Sony wanted FUNimation because it's the biggest company with increasing home video sales, and Sony bought FUNimation to try to learn its secrets. (Joke's on them--they have none. American anime fans are just weird, is all.)

Yes, in contract lingo, it means everything's finalized and the parties involved will eventually proceed onwards as stated in the contract. It isn't necessarily immediately, however.

I'm only hoping this will lead to the eventual ousting of Gen Fukunaga down the road. The majority of the fans can sing praises about him all they want for helping make Dragon Ball Z a powerhouse show in the west but the fact remains that he and his company's handling of the Dragon Ball property was dysfunctional to the point that he willingly screwed over the entire niche generation in order to help benefit the new generation without even so much as a simple apology for any inconveniences that occurred.

Sorry, but when you take people's hard-earned money, expect them to pay that much money for releases of popular shows on the grounds that this is the only way to properly support the industry for now and the future, then cancel the releases in favour of better releases without even so much as a compromise, you come off as a liar and a crook. You had the means to provide your fans with a better release to help support the industry? You do that on day one! You DON'T wait until your current show is halfway finished, cancel it cold turkey, and then provide that convenient new release while denying the existence of the previous and expect your fans to be all hunky-dory about it.

You realize that was 20 years ago, right? Also, he's still CEO.

The deal was made over a year before Sony decided to buy them, so they're not part of the contract. Therefore they might see Crunchyroll as competition rather than a partner. Aside from nothing happening, the only solutions are the contract being rewritten and Sony buying Crunchyroll also.

There is no statute of limitations when it comes to wrongdoing. Also, Fukunaga still being CEO doesn't really mean anything better.
